PAL Wait Time

Cant wait for the card maybe still chance to catch the boxing day at least if we have the number not the physical card
Will see how long it takes to get approved

That would be nice - missing black friday was a bummer but yeehaw might be just in time for boxing day sales!

I called to change my address (different province - moved recently) with the app number and it was no problem to change over the phone thankfully.

I called them too because they sent me an email for missing information I checked the box for restricted by mistakes and I only have non restricted course paper provided
The lady was very nice and I confirm that I only applied for non restricted and she updated the missing information

ON application
course completed 1st weekend of Oct.2020
mailed on Nov.18/2020
received Nov.23/2020

so about 4-5 month wait.

When is the earliest to call in?

I'm guessing, next BF2021...

Hard to say yet. Courses were fully opened in Ontario mid August and a huge number of courses picked up steam in Sept to cover all of the demand (when I looked in Aug they were all booked solid until December.. count myself lucky I got in one of the first courses). So who knows if that will cause an even larger backlog. Time will tell in a few weeks.

There’s no point in calling in before it shows up on the website or a huge amount of time (6+ months). There’s nothing at all the CFP peeps can tell you other than “it’s in the pile” as nothing is put into the computer system until the day it shows up on the website.

Maybe by then CFP will have more people hired to do processing. They can’t keep the 4 month backlog going forever.

they can and theyd be glad to
so you moved province? do yours go to the cfo of the province you moved to, or still go to ontario cfo?

Oh yeah, I’m sure they’d love to. Might as well make it officially a 4 month waiting period instead of 28 days. It would scare off even more people

I’m hoping it goes to NS CFO instead of ON considering I updated it as soon as I could for both my residence and mailing address. I didn’t ask. I’m sure that would be a good excuse to delay for months on end if it goes to ON...
It seems like they messed up inputting my name too so they have to fix it I think tomorrow. See you guys next year when I moan about an app taking over a year lol

Ok, this is ridiculous submitted on June 20th... still waiting. In Alberta, have called several times as I was told my file is off to the CFO for review. I ticked off that I've been treated for mental health issues (depression), and when I've called I've offered to provide documentation of safety/letters of support from my care providers etc.

sorry to have to say. Be prepared for a long wait. I waited over 19 months. (March 21, 2019 received by Miramichi. October 29, 2020 license issued)
I had a box checked for mental health (anxiety)

Be cautious about calling them too much. But do call them. i would suggest every 45 to 60 days. In my case it sounds like i was approved earlier but Covid delayed things
The last time i called (Oct 29 2020), the call taker looked over my file. Said she would try to bump it up to next level. Approx two hours later. I get phone call from CFO.
Brief interview (mainly - why to i want firearms. The other was about suicide) Was approved on spot and on December 06 2020 had RPAL in hand)

I am positive that if i did not call in on October 29 i would still be waiting.

Hey all,

First post but I wanted to make it here because I found the forum this way and appreciated everyone who posted their progression to getting their PAL/RPAL.

PAL/RPAL Course taken: July 18-19, 2020
Mailed out: July 20, 2020
"Completed initial processing": Website said August 9th but I wasn't able to see that message until early November when checking the RCMP site.
They called me today (December 16th) 8AM. Approved over the phone. NO references called and didn't call my wife.

Card in the mail now, they said 2-4 weeks. Pretty excited. Been browsing my local shops online for a few hours now.

So July 18-December 16 is just about 5 months.

Was asked questions along the lines of being married and if I had children (recently married), why I wanted to possess firearms, and questions about mental health (had some drinking issues before).

Answered as honestly as I could which I think goes a long way with anybody. Talked about having friends who hunt and shoot and became interested that way. I had the local club I plan to join as an answer pretty quick (waiting 'til 2021 due to fees). The person I spoke to on the phone said they heard great things about that club. When they asked about the RPAL I talked about target shooting (when I took the course the instructor told us always answer this way). They asked about my drinking history to which I explained that I have a good insight to my problem with it and have been sober a long time; Talked about how starting a family was my main goal and alcohol has no place in that.

They asked a lot of questions about work, what I did, recent layoffs, imminent layoffs, satisfaction at work... I just kept it pretty simple and talked positively about that situation. They said they'd go ahead and approve it and it'd be in the mail 2-4 weeks.

I called once in early October asking about the status of the application and was told it was backed up to May at that point. Really had no issue with being patient about it and didn't call again.

I mailed in from AB.

Hey all, good news!! License was issued 2 days after showing up online for me.

Here is my timeline:

Aug 21-23, 2020 - CFSC/CRFSC combo course
Aug 24, 2020 - Shipped application package to RCMP
Aug 26, 2020 - Package received by RCMP
Sept 21, 2020 - Received CFSC/CRFSC course report from FSESO (stamped Sept 16, 2020)
Dec 14, 2020 - Credit card changed & showing online - initial process complete, in progress
Dec 14, 2020 - Faxed course reports, called to change address (different province, I moved)
Dec 16, 2020 - Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued

I was NOT expecting this so fast since I moved provinces & they had to fix my middle name. But maybe those two made it go in front of a reviewing officer faster?

Will call tomorrow for my license number and start hawking out deals on ammo and 22lrs to buy :)
Beyond excited with the speed, good luck all!

One of the rare benefits compared to ONterrible haha.

Yeah no calls to me or references other than me calling them on the 14th.

Did my course around the 20th of August and didn't realize I could send my application immediately before my test results showed up so my application got mailed out around the 26th of September. Still nothing being processed, when I call they tell me they can't give me any info on my application at all. Super frustrating. Hoping to hear something by mid-January.

They are processing late August now, so yeah expect to see something on the website mid-late January but keep watching here for updates from others, will be interesting to see how the September rush of apps will affect things.

They can't tell you anything about it because your app hasn't even been looked at or entered into the system yet which is the big suck.
