PAL Wait Time

Submitted my PAL / RPAL renewal application, online, on July 7th, 2021. My CC was charged instantly. When I check the status, online, it tells me that my application has gone through initial stages. No correspondence from the CFO's office. I hope they are OK with my big, white Santa beard....

It is frustrating as I did mine 3 months before expiry and now I can't buy ammo or technically go shooting. This is rubbish as you pay for licence and you should be able to use it, can you image if drivers licenses were treated this way with millions of people having expired??

As of today, my application has changed to "Your application has been processed and your license has been issued. If you have not received your license within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number"

ON PAL application

Congratulations. I may not be too far behind you with those dates. Mine was received Nov 24 & my credit card was charged Dec 29. Mine is an ON RPAL so it may take a little bit longer. Maybe by the time I get it and get my first purchase restricted arm transferred, we’ll be out of lockdown and the range will be able to open back up…

My card was charged the same day as yours, so I will be watching your progress....Difference between us is that I faxed in my results separately after my credit card was charged to speed up the process, keeping my fingers crossed they received my results without issue. To be honest, was hoping it wouldn't be more then 2 weeks for it to change to "issued" after the charge.

This along with other speedy Ontario applications makes me think they’re messing around with my application. I think it might be connected to vaccination status. My application got accepted Sept.27 from Toronto. When I call they say it’s with the Provincial CFO. I got transferred to the Ontario CFO office and spoke to a lady there, I sensed in the tone of her voice there was more to it when she told me to call back in 6 months. I think they’ll give me another run around. This process should be a lot more transparent!

I sure hope you are wrong about why...

Did they charge your card?

As Wis3guy asked, have they charged your credit card? Mine was charged 35 days after they received my application. Your application was in NB two months before mine. I called the CFP last week to ensure there was nothing missing from my application, and was told my photo was being scanned and they were doing 'all the data entry' and to call back in two weeks.

Yes Credit card has been charged.

Courses taken: Aug. 20-21
Verified results record from CFO: Sept. 20
Application Received by registered mail: Sept. 27
Credit card charged: Oct. 20
The following annoying message: Seems like forever!

Current status

What extension did you use to speak to someone? Everytime I have called, it rings once and then says they are experiencing high call volumes and automatically hangs up on me.

Damn....

I hope you are completely wrong in your hunch as to why it is taking so long...if you are right, then this country is falling apart faster than I already thought.

I just called the main CFP number (1-800-731-4000) and spoke to the officer who picked up. She asked me a few questions to verify my identity (DOB, address, name (including spelling), city of birth, etc) and ultimately said everything was fine with my application and to call again in a couple of weeks. She was quite pleasant, she just couldn't provide me a timeline.

Just sharing my timeline here for ON PAL/RPAL:

Application received Oct 14, 2021
CC charged Nov 11
Called December 14 and was told that application is complete and has been sent to CFO for final approval.
No status change since and I plan to call them on Friday to get an update.

Thanks for the info! I ended up getting through today as well actually after I posted. She said she couldnt tell me if they had received my results that I had faxed, so I could resend if I wanted to, but that its taking about 3 weeks to get to information sent to them actually processed. I resent my results today just in case.

I don't know if it's any assurance, but as far as I know your medical records can't be accessed without a warrant or signed consent; unless you told them, they would not be aware of what your vaccination status is. A friend of mine that did the application and had concerns about her vaccination status, but she received hers within the "standard" 45 days without any reference calls.

Vaccination status has nothing to do with application processing, lol. It is 13 months my wife has been waiting now, it's just hit and miss. I suspect her's is sitting in a pile at someone's house who was working from home. Multiple phone calls all get the same answer....it is in the final, final, final stages of processing.

Vaccination status for a Firearms license?? Come on man. My Pal came quicker that most, my Rpal upgrade is taking longer than most. They have multiple reps inputting data, probably working from home during the pandemic. Anytime I've called them and spoke with a rep asking for information, I've been very polite and they have been very helpful.
