PAL Wait Time

Well as a new member and someone who just mailed in his restricted and non restricted application, many of these posts are alarming for sure. I really don't want to wait 9 months for my application to be pushed through. Being an Alberta resident can anyone offer any advice? My application should be arriving to their offices this Thursday Dec.16,2022 and I made darn sure everything was in order with my application. Does anyone have any advice to try and help my application along? Thanks folks.

Here's my advice:

I also have an update, I was able to have my license issued today. Hopefully this helps people:

I called the CFP and explained my last conversations with them and with my CFO, where we established my application was with a "jurisdiction officer" in Miramichi (despite the CFP computer system saying it's with my provincial CFO).

No new updates from the CFP general inquiries line, as they apparently do not have much in the way of direct communication with the jurisdiction officers, so I asked if it's possible to get a number for them.

The general inquiries officer transferred me and after some more time on hold and a brief conversation with the jurisdiction officer (who really was a lovely lady, certainly the most pleasant Federal employee I've dealt with outside of the National Parks Service), she verified that all my approvals had been completed, just one more box to tick to rubber-stamp it, and then she ticked that box and gave me my PAL number.

She did say that they're only printing every 2-3 weeks so not to count on a physical copy until January.

I would recommend this course of action to anyone who's been stuck at the "initial approval complete" phase.

All of that is foreign to me. I haven't had any conversations with anyone. No idea who my jurisdiction officer is and never talked to anyone about anything yet except for my firearms course instructor. As mentioned, it will just be arriving at the office on Thursday according to Canada post tracking. I'm sure they aren't going to open it that day, it will likely get stuck in a pile and left for months on end knowing my luck along with anyone else's here. Especially with a massive back log occurring with this new crap going on with the government. I do appreciate your reply so thank you, however I have no idea what to do with that info because it's really not relevant to me at this time seeing as I've only just sent mine in.

If you think I'm gonna let them make me wait a year, you got another thing coming haha. I don't roll over like that when it comes to the government dragging their a$$. Especially when people have had theirs approved within a month. My record is spotless and I dotted all my "i"s and crossed my "t"s Not to mention my instructor being very well known. Thank you for the response though :)

Hi, There is a 28 day wait period once they receive it. They wont work on it until that 28 day period is over. Real work begins when your credit card is charged!
I hope you get approved quickly, there is nothing to worry about. After the handgun freeze, I saw a lot of applications getting approved within 2-3 months.
All the best!

Do you know what day it was issued?

Oh, my mistake.
There is really nothing you can do until your credit card is charged. My advice applies once your application is at the "completed initial review" phase, which is where it usually gets stuck.
For any other questions you might have I'd recommend contacting your provincial CFO before trying the RCMP CFP number, you'll likely have an easier time actually speaking to someone. They can check most of the same stuff that the CFP can as far as your application status, they just can't do anything really to move it along.

bruh i hate this process lmao, I sent in a better photo at their request in March and they still haven't gotten me off "Initial review" and keep telling me to call back in 4 months.

Ontario, received 2022-02-03
i was told my central processing that ON-CFO received my application a week prior to my call (2022-07-27) and i should have license in hand within a couple months....

last phone call i made they told me since my picture was uploaded in April they cant work on my application till their done all the April applications, but i see people from October saying they got theirs already...wtf?

Anyone got any ideas or am i just SOL?

Well this was highly unexpected

Ontario PAL
Completed safety course Sept 17th, 2022
Application received by RCMP Oct 28th
Web services showing application processed and license issued within 2 weeks Dec 12, 2022

Congrats!

They must be slow rolling RPALs.
They got my app on May 6th, 2022 and I'm still waiting.
They haven't even called my references yet.
Had an RPAL that expired in 2018 and had to redo the who thing.

Anyone else waiting this long for an RPAL?

All righty...since my upgraded PAL was approved in mid-November and I haven't received my card, I thought I'd call the CFP to inquire (since the instructions said call back in 2 weeks if card not received).

The wait on the phone wasn't bad...maybe 20 minutes...

A lady checked my info and indicated that just because the CFP said the application was approved in mid November, that doesn't mean that the card was issued. In fact, in my case, due to a backlog of physical license cards to be printed and them having some printer issues, my card is slated to be printed this week and sent by Canada Post later this week (which means tomorrow or Friday). I may get my card as early as late next week or (more than likely) the week after Christmas.

So for those expecting their cards who were approved around the same time as me...they haven't printed/shipped out the cards yet.

I think we're in the same boat, and by reading others posts and what their phone calls said, and my own, it looks like printing happens once a week on Thursdays and then they send out Friday or something, so judging by time frames I think we're getting sent out this week, worst case next week.
