Pan Am shooting sports coverage

I work for CBC. Non Olympic multi sport events, like worlds, commonwealth etc. rarely get live coverage. Some of the more popular visually entertaining events are streamed online.

I was at the men's double trap medal match. Tickets sold out quickly And I thought that meant there would be a lot of people there... Turns out they must have only sold 100 tickets. Stands were not full and I would say there were more volunteers than spectators.

I was at there on Monday the 13th and stands were full at the end trap range. The other trap range with broken lawn chairs was ridiculous with people standing all over the place. The stands upstairs were not full. The facility for the 2016 Olympics in Brazil is what an Olympic class shooting centre should look like.

From my understanding the Feds and Province spent 6.2 million in tax dollars on the upgrades to TITS for the Pan Am Games. Brazil claims the 2016 Olympic shooting center cost 7.5 million USD but I find that hard to believe.

Who do you think is getting the better deal for their tax dollars?

Really nice venue.

The new rifle/pistol range built for the Pan Am Games does not meet the requirements for an Olympic range. If Toronto gets the Olympics, a new range would have to be built. The original design would have met specs, but it was compromised to 'save" money.

Hopefully Toronto will not get the Olympics, and the Canadian taxpayers won't have to deal with a huge bill.
