Panther LR-308

one on left is original ar-10/sr 25 mag, one on right is shorty ar 10 mag.
sr-25 reciever on left, ar 10 reciever on right.

I guess I have never handled them all so I can't say for sure,

but thats what I have gleaned from the internet anway.

not really important anyway, unless you are going for some sort of frankenbuild

maybe check that the dpms mags feed properly in your AR-10

They do feed properly.

They do feed properly.

well, I dunno,

first hand knowledge trumps hearsay and internet "fact" everytime.

It is kinda like finding out pe-90 mags function in an AR(maybe they do? now i am not so sure), but it is hard to argue if they are right there in front of you.

damn

When I did my research for the DPMS,
the online reveiws stated that the SR-25, original AR-10 and the DPM mags were interchangeable. However the Armalite ones were said to use M-14 mags.

Here is my point of view;
SR25 over rated, expensive, no customer service.

Armalite and DPMS, good quality, reliabilty, and customer service.
Both of them are used by GAP(top gunsmith in the US)

I choose the DPMS since it is cheaper and will upgrade with accessories anyway.
Already have a geissel match trigger(1st stage 2#, 2nd stage 10 onces :D )

260rem upper in the futur ;)

SSGP2,
I hear they like Federal Match as well.

That's a nice trigger you put in yours. Also I like how you mounted the scope on low. I hate high mounted scopes.

Haven't shot her yet :(.

I was planning on getting the scope a long time ago, however a Swiss Arms, and an r5 millspec followed me home instead.

Those two rifles replaced the four scopes I was going to buy :(.

So I'm a bit behind my projected schedule.

I picked up an LR-308 AP4 myself... did a final decision on acceptable non-factory mags surface?

I am really really holding my breath for either a repeal of mag limits or somebody to put out a suitbale handgun for these mags. (Ok not actually holding my breath or I would have died while typing this)

Pottsy
Congratulations. That's a pretty cool rifle. Mine was geared more for straight target shooting. The model you chose definately has won it's fair share of awards. It looks cool too.

As for the mags. As far as I know the DPMS are still the best for these rifles. They aren't cheap though that's for sure.

I'm looking at getting a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x 50mm scope.

My reasoning includes:
The fact that this is a range gun, so I'm limited to 200, or possibly 400 (a range an hour away). So I don't need the extra adjustments of the Leupold for long distance shooting.

I find the glass is as good, and possibly a very tiny bit better than the Leupold. Plus I like the controls a bit better. The reticle is etched, not wire.
It's a tough call between the Zeiss and the Leupold, but I personally like the Zeiss a little bit better. Although the Leupold is a fantastic scope.

I've been trying a number of scopes lately at the gun store. The Swarovski are out of my price range for this type of rifle plus they seem to be more geared for hunting. Scopes such as the NF aren't necessary for this type of rifle (Although I will be looking at one for a long distance rig). This pretty much puts Zeiss Conquest and Leupold as the primary contenders. Although I like Burris, it's just not quite at the same level. As for the Elite 4200. It wasn't competitive in my opinion (It was decent, but not as nice as the Leupold or Zeiss, and my Burris Fullfield optics I believe were better).

Now keep in mind I want to shoot this thing mostly bench rest for groups. So this dictates my scope magnification. If you have the AP4 you may want to go for a more tactical scope. So a Leupold MK4 may be more in line with what you're after.

So that's where I'm at right now. This is subject to change, until I've actually made the purchase :D

Excellent!!

A logical thought process, however, If I were you I would chat with Rick Over at Alberta Tactical Rifle. It is my understanding that he is carrying Night force and that the price point is about $200 more, than for the compareable Leupy scope. Now things may have changed, but we had this conversation not that long ago.

Your milage may varry.

Regards and all the best

I'll check into it. I wish firearms dealers would list their scope prices on their web pages. I've noticed most of the sponsors on this site don't bother. I'm not really into calling them up about it. I'd like to see and make a decision fast. Oh well.

The other thing about the Zeiss, is I'm going to need 5 of them. It's a $1100 scope. Which would make it closer to $500 more for a night force NXS with the same features. For the long distance rifle I'm getting soon, I'll be going with the Night force. That's a given. But for the majority of my rifles they will be topping out around 500 yards max. I believe the Zeiss Conquest is the way to go at this time, for those particular rifles.

That being said I may go for a Night force for my Remington R5 milspec instead of a Zeiss, since it is capable of long distance shooting.

It'll be about a month before I make my final decision.

Well my friend, I would chat with Rick, if you are ordering that kind of volume, one never know what you might be able to negotiate

I'll give him a call in a few days (after the weekend). I just PMd a guy on this site from Alberta Tactical. So we'll see. If it's close then it's an easy decision on which one to get, although I do like the Zeiss Conquest.
The NXS model that I wanted was a lot more expensive. I'll probably put one on a precision rifle I have. But not on the DPMS. I'll be going with the Zeiss Conquest.

Borrowed a camera. Updated photos. Not the best but I can't slam the camera too much considering it was better than the one I own.
