Panty(waist)shields

In my opinion , if you shoot a lot of rounds at one time , it is probably the only extra you NEED , everything else is cool factor and personal preference. Look at most military shotguns and the only universal thing that seems to be common is the heat shield.

Actually, a bayonet lug arguably makes more sense on a tactical shotgun than on an assault rifle. Excepting shotguns used for very particular roles (breaching, riot control, less-lethal munitions), the shotgun is more specialized for CQB than other long guns. A shotgun with a conventional stock and an 18" barrel would make a half-decent platform to mount a bayonet on.

As far as bayonets no longer being relevant...well, WWI was the last war that was begun without a general questioning of the continued utility of the bayonet. All of those questions haven't changed the fundamental fact that when close quarters combat ensues, having a pointy stick is better than a blunt stick.

IMHO Heat shields are good to have for a brush gun, and do offer not only protection for your hand, but protection for the barrel while marching through thick brush, swamps and such. :)

I was going to put one on my HP9, but the ATI shield comes right to the end of the muzzle (14"), and obscures the front bead...I guess I would have to get it drilled and tapped for a red dot...but I digress. :D

I just put a limbsaver pad on my stock last week. Quite an improvment I must say. Any suggestions as to shield makers? I see Marstar has ATII(ATI, I forget). Advice please.

My niece would love a Maverick in hot pink, but I can't bring myself to do it...
 
I find a shield a good thing to have if you're shooting lots of rounds quickly and reloading.

My 3 Gun shotguns always have them.
 
Put a Mossberg shield on my 870MM, no regrets and best of all no burnt fingers. I got a rather disgusting burn during a mini torture test and decided I would rather not have it happen again. Keep in mind that after a long sesion the shield can get pretty toasty too!
 
You would think that "furniture" on a shotgun refers to the wood stocks (or synthetic replacement), but it doesn't. Furniture, when applied to shotguns, means the visible small parts of a double gun: toplever, triggerguard, safety tab, forend release latch, etc.

Makes it less confusing if we use firearms terms consistently.:D For a glossary of terms see:
