Paper patch bullets? 45-90 Sharps

Hi, I have an 1874 sharps in 45-90. I was just wondering if anybody out ther knows how to make paper patch bullets. I have the right mould, I've made the projectiles and now I'm at a standstill....
What type of paper do I use?
How do I wrap it?
Do I need to lube the paper as well?
I can't seem to find anyone who knows how to load paper patch bullets. Any help would be great.

Dig around online. Google is yer friend. Sorta, anyways.

Stick the phrase "paper patching" into Google and read till yer eyes go dry! Then do "paper patch bullet"

The paper is 100% rag content and should be about .004" thick. The bullet should be about .002 under bore diameter before PP. You wrap a bullet with 2 and a bit wraps and cut diagonally accross the paper then unwrap and make a template for exactly two wraps of paper. I found that it worked best for me if I dipped the paper in cold water then wrapped and twisted gently the base portion and let dry. I let the paper hang about 1/4 to 3/8" past the base of the bullet. I started the paper just behind the ogive of the nose. Final point is that when you size the bullets, the sizer should have a taper from the entry portion into the final diameter. If there is an abrubt shoulder, it will strip the paper off of the bullet.

all the components are readily availible at c. sharps arms or shiloh rifles in big timber, montana.. i went through a stint of shooting paper patch bullets from my 74 shiloh 45/90 but proved to time consuming for me , i shoot just plain grease groove cast bullets and goex black powder in it these days,
 
If you have a proper mould for Paper patch bullets it should mic. approx. .446-.449" this will allow you to use two wraps(standard) and end up 1/10" from 2 complete wraps. Make your self up a template for drawing and cutting the right size patches. You should measure your bore and determine what thickness of paper will allow your 2 wraps to make up the difference and have the end result be at least .001" over size. The best paper to use has at least a 25% cotton content and this is harder to find, I have heard of folks using all kinds of paper including butchers wrap, but keep in mind the right thickness. The question of lube is much debated but I like to just hand spread a min. amount on the finished bullet/patch and use a 1/8" or so lube cookie between the bullet and the full case of Black powder. I won't bore everyone one all the things I've done to make it work, pm me for details if you like, I can send you a template if you like, MT Chambers sends a proper template with all Paper Patch bullets they supply.

You put a grease cookie between the bullet and the over powder wad.

Here are two titles you may want to get:
1= " The Practical Paper Patched Bullet ", by Paul Matthews , Wolf Publishing.
Search the internet, from used book dealers.
2=" Loading and Shooting Paper Patched Bullets, a Beginners Guide ", by Randolph S. Wright, " www.wrightgalleries.com ", or from Buffalo Arms.
