I understand that there is a wrench for these. For some reason Marlin stopped including them a couple of years back. Had a chance today to test normal hand tight against as tight as my hands could get it. The target on the left is normal and the right left marks in my hands. Both were 7 rds but had a dud round on the first one. Sitting, no support, 25m.
Maybe I will get the wrench but I know I will misplace it!
Cool rifle regardless. I have done a couple of mods to make it more er, survivalisher? Lol

I think there suppose to come with the wrench from the factory? No way to tighten the barrel up really good without one.
Did you buy yours used and there was no wrench? You should contact Marlin and ask if they will send you one.

I thought so, as well, but none of the models in stock had one. Not like a business hasnt pulled the extra stuff to sell it separately before though. Makes me wonder. I will give them a call. Any fantastic idea for butt contents? I have placed a mylar survival blanket, magnesium block and extra ammo so far.

Mine came with wrench as well, purchased this winter. Looks like you are sorted.
I have this vague plan to make a wrench that connect to a multi tool; maybe someday I'll post if I do.

Using a wrench is mandatory IMHO. On a newer Remington made one I'd eve say you should put some lapping compound between the inside of the nut and the lug it engages and spin it a million times to ensure its a good even fit. Having a secure contact there is extremely important for accuracy.

even with mine cranked on with the wrench i have had it loosen up on me this winter when i was playing with it.
i chalk it up to the extreme cold i was out in and then going into the warm truck.
expand, contract, expand, contract.
oh, and mine came with a wrench, picked it up end of Jan beginning of Feb, date of manufacture was April 2015.

did you check that little pouch in the fold of your bag that it came in?
where the lock was located.

Yes checked everywhere. Marlin actually told me, 'it's pretty common that these go missing'. Curious why they don't do more to secure them with the rifle during transport, but meh, Marlin was very good about connecting me with Gravel. Just waiting for the mail now.
If I can get even better accuracy with that wrench, I will be tickled pink.
