Looking for a new IPSC 40 for limited and was concidering a 16 40. How is this gun for reliability. Would I be better of spending more for a STI tactical /edge ,custom Colt 1911 or a Tanfoglio limited or limited 11... I think they are really acurate and flat shooters .... I am looking for reliability and durability. I am thinking that all of them will need to be tuned by a smith......Thanks TAZZ

I got one, not interested in selling it but would not buy it again. It's slightly better than 'ok' gun - look into Tan, Bul M-5 or STI Edge; where former is the cheapest and latter is the best and most expensive. SVI Infinity is nice :D

Got one from the EE. 1st owner had trigger work done. I changed the factory sear to an STI which greatly improved the "crispness". So far am pleased with its performance. Shoots as good a the other 1911 platforms I have plus am fond of re-loading .40 S&W. Since you will have work done to it, I'd get a nice used one from the EE and go from there. Its noteworthy to mention the my smith is not a great fan of Para's. He would have preferred me to get an SVI or STI. Let us 1911'ers know what you end up with. Good luck shopping and happy shooting!!!!

Buy the Edge if you can afford it. Only thing it will need...and that's only a maybe....is possibly a trigger job.

X2, started with the Para, now run an Edge, you'll spend the difference getting the Para up to the Edge quality (and you'll never quite get there).

Save the hassle go to the STI....

The difference in price between a Para 16.40 and a STI edge is about the same as the what you will spend in upgrades

The mags on a Sti are more expensive, but are stronger than Para mags
But when you replace the plastic base on a Para mag with a metal one,you are back to a similar price

The STI Edge is good to go as-is, and the support from Freedom Ventures is excellent.

Don't waste your money dicking around (as I did); just buy right the first time - buy what the top finishers are using.

Buy an Edge and don't look back.

What happen to the Tanfoglio???

Buy the Edge if you can afford it. Only thing it will need...and that's only a maybe....is possibly a trigger job.

You dont like the Tanfo anymore Rob? :D

Tanfo Ltd Custom would be way of a better deal compare to Para 16-40. Ask Freedom Ventures for a 6-mag package.

I agree with the STI Edge. I shoot open now, but I cant still let go my Edge :)
I DONT WANT to regret selling it.

Got a Para S16-40 Limited. The gun feels great in the hands and is very accurate. I bought it new and had a problem from the very beginning - it cycled flawlessly with only one kind of factory ammo - American Eagle RNFP. On all other types of ammo it would either jam or the slide would lock on the 9th round. I had a gunsmith do the trigger to 2.5 lbs and another gunsmith changed broken extractor, polished and smoothed the chamber and tuned up the mags. It improved things with factory ammo, but I am still getting an occassional jam with reloads. By now I am out close to $2000 with marginally better gun than the one that came out of the store. In retrospect, I'd rather spend that plus a bit more on the Edge or Tanfo Limited Custom and saved myself a lot of headaches and dow.

Isn't the Limited Custom a copy of the CZ Tactical Sport? I think the CZ is also a bit less expensive. No one likes them?

Cheers

What kind of jam? If the slide is locking open on the 9th round, you need to trim your slide stop a bit. It's getting bumped by that second-to-last round on its way up. Take the slide completely off and insert a mag with 2 rounds loaded into the frame `till it seats. Now look down into the frame and observe the slide stop in the notch. You'll be able to see how much you have to dress the stop in order to clear for reliable feeding.

Cheap and easy!!

If it's nose diving or something like that, it's magazine related most likely.

Para vs others

Gents,
When shooting IPSC or any similar sport, the cost of ammo (reloads or factory) will soon make the cost of the gun seem very small. See what the top shooters use, then buy the best you can afford.
