Hey guys. Was just wondering if anyone has any experiance with the Para GI Expert .45acp. I fondled one at the fun store and was *this* close to buying it for $650 new, but I know nothing of Para or their quality...

If it were me, I'd pass on the Para put down a couple hun more and get an STI Spartan from Armco.

I fondled a new GI Expert today, when I cycled the slide it was grinding like it had sand in it. Hopefully they all aren't like that. Nice looking gun though.

Got 2 Para double stackers (Canadian made/used from EE) and both needed/had work (trigger) done to make them into shooters. Internals are not the greatest but the barrel, slide and frame (at least on the ones I have) are tight and accurate. Am a 1911 fan so any make for me is always satisfying to fire and figure out (some moreso than others). Nevertheless, I would spend a couple of hundred more and look at an STI or a used Kimber. For me, nothing beats shooting a .45 pistol, especially in the 1911/2011 formats. Happy shopping!!!

Whats wrong with the Para?

Some of the other posts in this thread give an inkling as to what's up with Paras. Personally, I don't care to own one. Even if I did consider one it would be one that Armco had worked on first, smoothed out and worked any bugs out. I've just seen too many people have issues with Paras.

Like I said, if I was going to consider a new 1911 with some nice mods on it from the factory I'd go for an STI Spartan from Armco. I don't think you could go wrong there.... ;)

I'd take an Auto Ord or Springfield Armoury 1911A1 GI model over the Para GI model any day of the week, too.

+1 for going with the STI.

Some Paras have treated me well in the past however you get some very nice features and better overall build quality in the STI for not a great deal more money. I have found some of my single stack STI's to be finnicky when it comes to which mags they prefer but if you stick with quality mags you will be impressed.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the responces guys.. Already got a spartan, it was my first handgun lol. I was looking more for a cheapish sorta good 1911 to frig around with cause im not messing with the spartan hehe.

If that's what you're looking for why not pick up a Norc 1911A1 off the EE for around $350. It's the perfect 1911 to mess around with without breaking the bank, or your Spartan.... ;)
