Hey everybody.

I'm looking for Canadian retailers for Para handguns, preferably in Saskatchewan, but cross Canada is fine. Just wondering if anyone had any positive dealings with specific shops that they could recommend?

I'm new here but have been a lurking for a while. Great site.
 
No offense meant to Para loyals. Google issues for newer non-Canadian built Paras before you proceed. I do not own one. But you will find forums discussing these issues.

I have a Canadian made SSP which is a great gun, but I hear a lot of negative things about the ones made in the states so watch out.
 
Takes a year for North Silva and Para to do any type of warranty work. Might want to consider that as well. before spending any cash on those monstrosities.
 
sent one in for warranty repair a year and a half ago. Have not seen it since. North Sylva and Gravel have a long way to go to redeem the crappy service I got from them.

Older, Canadian-made ones weren't that great either. Peening issues due to cast slides, frequent jamming, etc. I'm surprised Para is still in business, considering that you can get a similar (but much better quality) product from STI for about the same money.

Wait for it. North Sylva actually charged me 50$ to ship me back my gun after a years wait...
 
Sounds like Para might be a bit of a gong show. Thanks for the info guys/girls. I'm in the middle of researching some choices for my first pistol so I've been checking up on numerous manufacturers.
 
Last I heard Para was now dealing in Quebec at a dealer there ... I am thinking North Sylvia is a no go no more .... awesome product but read the threads above before buying
 
I have heard that the company is now moving in a different direction, and that the new ones are much better quality.
My range in Edmonton, Phoenix Gun Range, is a dealer for them I think...

I bought one of these last month. Excellent fit and finish and accurate (2-1/2 to 3" at 25 yards off bags). 100% reliable though I did a few things like adjust the extractor and clean up the internals before I even fired it.

It is late 2013 manufacture.

As it turned out, I also grabbed another GI expert off the EE for $400, an early USA made gun and while it is also accurate, the finish and some components make me understand why the Para USA guns have the reputation they do. For what I paid, I don't mind dealing with the crappy mags and changing out the cast unadjustable extractor and the misshapen disconnector. The para-paint will also be getting redone soon with cerakote which I can do myself. If I'd paid anywhere near retail for it I'd be pretty unhappy.

Cast slides.....enough said, move on to anything else as it will be better quality. Hell, even Ruger that casts everything don't even use a cast slide on their 1911.

The current single stacks are forged/forged

The early USA models are forged slide and cast frame

They had cast slides and frames up until very recently.....like 2012. If they went forged/forged its recent, and they are not bragging about it on their website even.
