They're easy to find...they'll be at the safety table between stages..."tuning" the gun. Funny...those are the guns that never seem to work.

This year I went to a Para P14-45ltd ( used ) .
the way I see it is both options are good depending on where you are ( skills wise ) .
Budget plays a big role to me , if you are starting out and have nothing what do you do ?
If you have the budget for all new the S_I platform is definately better than the Para and in the end the difference will be minimal . Plus the S_I will have a much better resale should you choose to sell .
If you have my budget ( nill ) , The step from production to standard was easier by selling my first gun ( lost next to nothing ) to help pay for the next gun . I bought the Para from a very good shooter as a package - to me a proven package for far less than a new set up . All the bell and whistles were done on someone else's nickle . By the way , the guy I bought it from went to a Edge and loves it . Anyway , this gun is still better than I am , But it will be sold in a few years to fund the next gun and it will be a S_I tuned from a gunsmith .

So you work your way up as your skills improve. That's a good approach. Bottom line: The harder you are going to use the gun, the more you are going to have to spend on it. Paras are decent entry or even mid-level guns once they are set up correctly, but if you want to race...REALLY race...you will likely come to realize at some point that you need a gun that is purpose-built for racing. Will the S*I guns need some tuning? Sure; they are racing machines and like all racing machines they interface differently for every individual user. But the fitted and forged frames/slides and higher quality parts do last longer under hard use.
All gun designs have limitations, and the buyer has to make some informed choices as to which package of strengths and limitations they can live with at their own particular price point level of tolerence. Buy the best you can afford (and something you also happen to like) and you will be well served. If all you need is a 5000 round per year gun then a para will do very nicely, but if you are at some point likely to start shooting say, ten times that number, you might just want to look at a more durable combination. That's all I'm saying.
As/if your needs change, so too can your equipment.
maybe my Para was a friday gun,the front sight fell off,the rear sight fell off,the ejector broke,the extractor broke and the slide broke,but para did replace the parts and put a new slide on it.I still liked the gun and would still consider one but it would NEVER be my Edge!

The Para's a small block & the S_I is a blown hemi .
I figured I need to know how to make a small block sing before I make the hemi scream .
for what it's worth I've seen S_I's jam up , due to a variety of reasons .
But I still want one , just not yet .( 15 more payments on the house )
