Ok in my recent search for a 9mm I have noticed that many, not all are not fond of Para Ordinance ?? Why is that ?? I thought the P18 9mm looked good or even the 1911 9mm looked cool. I don't know anyone who owns one so I can't try one to shoot.

The same appears to with the Baby 9mm from Magnum Reseach, some say really good things and others say to stay away ?? Why ??

Let me say this, Para is a Canada firearm company. I want to support them to buy their gun as soon as I got my RPAL eight years ago. Email them how about a 106 mm barrel 9mm gun, Don't get reply. Ask again and said don't have a plan for Canada Market, which is fine. Mean while found that there is a Para club, asked them and said it is for American only. I got ####ing choked and swear not to buy their gun, Anyhow I did some reading on the net and found their quality is not bad especially smooth trigger. But over all hit and miss. Some like them but some hate them. I had have emailed several gun company in the State for informations, I got reply within 24 hrs, but not Para. They will move to the State and if your gun run into problem, you may not able to get parts easily.

I've owned both. I bought a Para SSP because I wanted to support a Canadian firearms company but when I had concerns about it, all I got was "Wedgies" from the 'head' of their customer service department. When I became concerned about how the slide stop area was peening and wearing I learned that there was normal wear and "Para-normal" wear. Even though my SSP functioned fine and was accurate every time I picked it up I thought of their 'customer service' department head and his arrogant and demeaning nature when I talked to him. I quit shooting it and it just sat in my safe until I traded it off a few months ago. I will never buy another Para product again and have no sadness in them reloacating down to the states.

As for the Baby Eagle I owned. It was reliable and extremely accurate. It had the nicest DA/SA trigger I have ever experienced from a handgun out of the box. My gripes about it were the finish seemed thin and a roll pin above the trigger kept drifting out despite blue/green/red Lock-Tite on it. I determined that the hole was slightly oversized and rather than look for a larger roll pin I sold it to raise funds for another purchase. For the money I think one is better off buying a real CZ.

Just my experience with these pistols. Like you said there are others who are happy with their Para's and BE's....YMMV.

I own two Para's, a P16.40 and a P14.45. The P16.40 I've had for several years and can't tell you about Para's customer service because I've never ever needed to use it. It has always worked flawlessly for me and I have never had a problem with it. Being a double stack I like the fact that it holds 10 rounds and I love the feel of the wider grips in my hand. I have tried several single stack 1911's but decided I didn't like the feel and eventually bought the P14.45.

Anyway just my two cents worth on Para's.
