The Newfie Bullet:
Norinco double stack 1911 in 9mm. The one I shot had a pretty awful trigger and military (useless) fixed sights, no idea if they are available in .40 or .45.
Springfield .45 double stack, no idea if they are sold in Canada. I shot the .45 and thought it was a fine gun, a friend had a .40 that he tried to sell to me, it launched it's barrel down range the next day, the two piece barrel had seperated at the join of the chamber and barrel.
Bul M5 made by Bul Transmark in Israel, distributed by Marstar, available in 9mm, .38 Super, .40, .45. I have the .38 Super IPSC model and would rate it 90% of the STI at half the prize.
STI2011/Edge from Freedom Ventures is pretty much the best option for a double stack gun.
SVI Infinity is basically the same as the STI, but with a removable breech face so you can caliber change the same slide with a new breech face and barrel. Unfortunately the two that I have seen didn't run well and Hosercam.com had a rather good film of one launching it's breech face out of the ejection port in the middle of a stage.
So I would run with the STI if you have the money and the Bul if you don't.
