Para-Ordnance 1911 sight question

Despite the flak Para-Ordnance sometimes receives, I really like this pistol: It's a GI Expert and I bought it new about 1.5 years ago. I read reviews about it and the black paracote isn't the most durable, the trigger is black plastic and not particularly light, and the bobbed hammer that would allow for ease of drawing from concealed instead of the far more attractive traditional hammer, is not the most attractive but most of these things can be changed with little difficulty.

This group was shot yesterday, amoung other groups: For a 1911 still going through break in period, there were two ftf in the one hundred rounds I shot. Here is my best group of five with this pistol yesterday. 1.747" using Weaver stance at 12 yards isn't to bad for my level of pistol accuracy development. Ammunition is typical 230gr tmj commercial reloads from Wolf (local source of ammo sold at SFRC)

The sights being fixed, are where my question arises for the following reason:

Shooting I did was good for my proficiency, but point of impact is consistently low: About 2 1/4" in all five groups. For an entry level 1911, it is very accurate, and put in the hands of someone more experienced, would be evident. Last year I expected flinch was the cause, but I am slaying that irrational beast evident in the following picture of a group I shot with my 44mag last week. I always align my sights at 6 o'clock position.

My question is, does anyone know who in Canada would carry an adjustable sight that will fit in the rear dovetail without modifying the pistol? I know from an older Gun Digest that MMC made a drop in 1911 sight but I have been unsuccessful in finding them or an equivalent. The dovetail on my Para is approximately 0.150" deep, 0.335" wide at the base, and 0.212" wide at the top. (which may not be standard) It's not something heard of in local sources.

i don't know about the adj sites . are you left handed , 6 o'clock to what part of the target , have you tried ball & dummy drills ? your 44 likely has a far better trigger & a longer site radius , plus it's prob much more accurate of a gun .

I have both hands, but my right is dominant. ;) When I aimed at the target, the top of the sights lined up with the bottom of the red dot. I haven't made any dummy rounds for the pistol, but I often will put a couple empties in the revolver as a flinch defeating exercise - This works really well for anyone who has that trouble. When the hammer falls on the empty case, the flinch is obvious.

My 44mag is a S&W 629 with a 5" barrel. 1911's traditionally come with 5" barrels, as does my Para clone, but barrel is shorter (because it includes that length constituting chamber) than that measured on revolvers because the cylinder isn't consider "barrel". Yes, I expect the revolver is more accurate and the trigger is the wide target style and very clean break.

I realize that I have much to improve in just myself: Aside from that, I only wish to change the rear sight so that the line of sight and bullet impact are at the same point. I contemplated milling the front sight so it was shorter, which would raise the muzzle in reference to the sight line, or purchase a new front post probably needing to be about 30-70thousandths of an inch shorter. Since concealed carry is denied everyone in this country, drawing snag free is not needed, so I would rather install a bulkier but adjustable sight.

try a larger bull , 4 to8 " @ 20 yds , focus on the sites " ONLY !! " , fire one @ a time lowering the gun to the bench between shots , ease off your left hand & use it to just steady your right , not to over grip the gun , using the parallel thumb style grip . with a small aim point @ point & pull range it's far too easy to forget , SITE ALINEMENT . i'm a big believer in adj sites but most of your prob might be site focus & trig control . your 629 is an excellent pc & will out group 1911's all day long .

I run lower velocity swc loads in GI expert. It us cosistently low with that load and every other load I have tried.I dremeled the front sight down a bit, that helped some. Then I just got used to using the 12 oclock hold.My gsg .22 uses the 6 oclock hold, .45 12 oclock.easy.I figure nearly any of the scads of aftermarket adjustables should fit fine.Interested to see what works for you.I have found my Para to exceed my accuracy expectations right out of the box.5k rounds later, still impressed.Runs great with the supplied mags.

Thank you for the suggestions. I can try holding differently, as I do "overbear" holding my right hand with my left, the right usually does about 30% of the hold plus trigger pull. I am conscious about focusing on the front sight though.

A gun show is coming up in awhile, so I will still look for an adjustable sight, failing there may reduce the height of the front sight or get a gunsmith to fit a sight. It's interesting that Para's GI Expert (I've read other people with the same) consistently comes new with this problem: Too bad, for an entry level 1911 ($600.00), it's a pretty good gun, but would be great for that price if they sold it with a shorter front sight.
