Para Ordnance Black Ops Recon

OP, for the features you are looking for, consider STI's Tactical line. Another option that has many of the features is the SAM Thunderbolt. Xtreme guns in Winnipeg also has some tactical 1911 options that are basically Armscor pistols rebranded (google them).

FWIW, I have a Para P16 that has run very well through 10,000's of .40 ammo, it is an older Para however and I have seen newer ones that did have many of the problems mentioned above. I have not handled or shot a recently produced Para so maybe QC is better?? For the asking price I would hope so.

Para went though a period of poor QC when the company was sold and manufacturing moved from Canada to the US. They have apparently gone through a recent restructuring and return to strict QC. I have not as of yet held or shot one of these newer paras, when they finish redesigning their double stack mags I am going to purchase a Black ops recon in 9mm. The Rep told me Para will have these done shortly.

Can anyone recommend a quality 1911 which has an under barrel rail, night sights and an ambidextrous thumb safety? And is known for eating any kind of ammo you feed it?

You've got several options, but they'll be a bit more money than the Para, I'm assuming. I have a Kimber SIS and a Sig Scorpion, both railed. Both awesome guns. Reliable, accurate, with great fit and finish.

Just ordered the Para pro comp 9mm. Should be here in 6-8 weeks as they haven't shipped from para-USA yet. I will update with actual pics when it gets here.

yeah I was looking at the SIG nightmare as well, looks pretty good.

My second 1911 was a Para Expert GI. Competed 1 full year in IPSC and shot a TON of rounds tru it. Always worked like top, not bad for an entry level 1911. I just bought a Para Elite pro. For $1200 you can't go wrong.

Both slide and frame are forged stainless steel with ion Bond treatment.
Ambi safety
front strap checkering
ramped barrel
Magwell
trijicon night sight
full lenght guide rod

Righ off the box, shot 50 rounds so far and I am impress.

Well my Para 10/45 is here, just waiting for the paperwork to get completed. I was able to shoot it this weekend (shooting with your gun dealer has some perks). The quality is fantastic as well as the fit and finish, also one of the best out of the box 1911 triggers I've ever felt. This one doesn't come with the mag well which surprised me as it has it in all the pics, but isn't a big deal to me as I'm not using it for IPSC. I will post detailed pics later this week when the paperwork is done.

Here is a pic I took of my new Para. So far I am more than happy, anyone who previously overlooked para should reconsider, it would appear they have stepped up their game to pre USA standards.

I don't own one but I got to photograph one - felt great in my hand and the build finish was nice.

Black Ops (This is actually the black pistol from post 1 but the light caught it nicely):

if your looking for options....

SAM Tactical Commander from Wolverine, paid under $500 for it brand new, its run flawless for me so far.
i know 2 other people that have them and both say the same.

looks to be about the same as what our looking for. something to consider.

This is a Para thread, please let's not turn this into an I like ### firearm better.

wow, thanks for being an ######, but if i may point out to you the guy that made this thread asked in post #7
I'm not a newb when it comes to researching and reading about firearms, but I am newb when it comes to actually handling and firing firearms. Can anyone recommend a quality 1911 which has an under barrel rail, night sights and an ambidextrous thumb safety? And is known for eating any kind of ammo you feed it?

sorry if these are annoying questions or things that have been discussed at length already in this forum...

so my reply was to HIM asking what an alternative 1911 commander with the same options where.
so i pointed out an option that has all the stuff he was wanting.
if you dont like that, you can of course start YOUR OWN thread and title it Para-Love-Fest 2014.

cheers.
