Para Ordnance ....Wheres the local Cdn support......UPDATE UPDATE Words now under PIC

I laugh when peopel say Para has #### CS. I PMed George Wedge on this site with a couple questions regarding finish, pistol size and operation system(SA/LDA), and replied within a couple hours with 2 links to models wich are exactly what i wanted. When i make the move to buy a 1911, it'll be a Para.

Just because Para is Canadian doesn't mean they have to give Canadians preferable treatment because we're still customers afterall.

It's fine if they don't give diddly squat about us. I don't understand why anyone would expect them to otherwise. It's their business and they have the choice to cater or provide service to whomever they want, Canadian or otherwise.

FYI I don't have a PARA... oh and their mags suck balls. :canadaFlag:
Open markets are fine, as long as we get favorable treatment:rolleyes:

Although Para manufactures its guns in Canada, its distributer is American. If I'm not mistaken when Canadian wholesalers buy Para's, they have to 'import' them into Canada......

One of my newer acquisitions, I was kinda' dismayed by the "Ft. Lauderdale" stamp, though.....

I agree with those who say that Para neglect us, Canadian pistol shooters.
There is country called Czech Rep. (10mln people) and they make CZ pistols, which are most popular in Czech. Why Para doesn't drop price a bit for Canadians (30 mln people market) so me, instead shooting STI will switch to Para for IPSC.
Personally Para goes where is money, bigger money and less trouble.
That is why I am not going to own Para till they change their approach.

Yeah and Switzerland has less people than that... the difference is the size of the market, not the size of the population. ATF reckons there are 80 million handguns in the US, legally owned. How many here? Half a million or just over.

Yeah, And they have to ship all there parts to the US for assembly now I think. Still one of the better Canadian guns IMHO.

I don't think so, NE 45th St. is a residential area. (Not far from Pure Platinum  ) Might just be a PO Box.

Any business worth its salt will reply to potential custormers in a competent professional manner. That's why when I was a credit union director I fiercely opposed a recorded message telephone system. Nothing says " you are not just a number to us" like an intelligent life form at the other end of the phone. If we are only 1/100 or less the size of the U.S. we are still a market, and any business ignores markets at its peril. Somebody should clip this discussion and forward it to Para Ordinance.

Interesting thread as I was considering a Para. I was actually looking for a Para VS Kimber thread when I found this one. Based on the customer service issue alone I think it will be Kimber or maybe STI although I don't know their service rep.
The argument that we are too small a market I find pathetic...any business that wouldn't like to see a 10% rise in sales deserves to fade into obscurity. So what if the percentage of handgun owners is minuscule compared to the US, that just means there is that much greater percentage of untapped potential.

What is needed is a Canadian manufacturer that will step up and actively support, foster and sponsor shooting sports here. I think that if they did they would be repaid for their support.

Maybe I'm way off-base as I'm fairly new to the handgun world but this seems obvious to me.

But the point is that they do seem to be nice to Canadians, they just don't make as much effort as they do in the US. Seeing as the market is something like 160 times larger, not much of a surprise.

Remarkably similar situation to John Slough Limited, who made the Spitfire pistol in Hereford. I think I was the only person who lived in the UK who ever actually bought the basic model, because it was really a carry gun. The market was really the US.

How many Glocks does Glock sell in Austria? Peanuts compared to the US. Are there even any Austrian gun magazines for Glock to advertise in? I can only remember seeing German ones.

I've only ever seen Sauer making a really significant effort in the European market with lots of advertising, promotions and the like. Mmm, and maybe Umarex.

The US handgun market is bigger than everywhere else in the world put together. Even with military contracts.

I think the German S&W importer makes more of an attempt in the civilian market in Europe than H&K and Glock do.

Bingo.

To offer a product to fellow Canadians would not cost them more...as some say "we have a small market", so I can't see how it would somehow cost them more to do so.

UPDATE UPDATE ..............Just saw the complete ad in the back of COMBAT HANDGUN magazine. At the bottom of the posted picture is the following words.

The next two years are vital to our right to keep and bear arms. For each Gun Rights pistol sold we will make a contribution to NRA-ILA. No registrations, no mail-ins; You purchase the pistol and we donate $25 to NRA-ILA. Visit your dealer today, get the most value in a 1911 and protect your right to keep it with a Para Gun Rights 1911.

That helps Canadian gun owners..............how?

It doesn't, especially when they pass themselves off as amerikans..."our right to keep and bear arms". The closest I have seen them come to advertising that they were a Canadian company was an add in a gun magazine that showed some compact 1911 of theirs on a table with a Canadian penny beside it.

It's true that Para doesn't cater specifically to Canadians, but few Canadian companies do! We live in a free market economy, and Para is in the business of making money. Their only obligation to Canadians is to pay salaries and taxes. Patriotism may give you a warm fuzzy feeling, but it does nothing for the bottom line. Para doesn’t treat Canadians as second class global citizens, they just don’t give us any special breaks.

If Canadian and former immigrant, Frank Stronach, buys Daimler Chrysler/Chrysler Canada it’s unlikely that he will:
-give us any special, Canadian only, price breaks.
-support Canadian auto racing anymore than he already does, if he does.
-support any car related organizations or lobby groups, unless they dramatically increase his bottom line.

The Para guys are friendly and generally very responsive to customer questions. Why should any Canadian expect more from Para than they expect from any other Canadian Company?
