I have an opportunity to pickup a Para SSP, but I'm struggling to find what it retailed for or its value(*its mint) as it is discontinued. The seller said he paid $1400 for it. Just looking to see if anyone has any in sight on this 1911 as it is a beauty! Thanks for looking!

HeavenIsAllie is still being polite.

Para is vile garbage with no customer support to speak of up here.

So Remington R1 Enhanced it is lol. Figured its a nice looking pistol but I've been drawn to the Remmy from the start. Local gun shop has a special edition 1of5 I may jump on..

don't hesitate for the R1, I have it (R1 enhanced) , I love this gun, very smooth action, dead acurate !! works flawless !!

p.s. : the business store should not keep their guns hammer up in the display .....

Sorry man, but Para is questionable at best, with no customer service. Been there done that. That's about as polite as I can be on the subject ;)

I actually have an SSP and so does a buddy of mine. We both love them. Work really well despite the reputation of Para. Finish is weak and wears easily but I have to to shoot with not to look at.

That being said, I bought mine used in 2005 and paid about $600 for it if I recall correctly. $1,400 is way steep in my opinion.

Hope the OP is real happy with his Remington R1 purchase. Good shooting.

Wow, Para got killed and Dilligaf didn't even get a shot in - cool. OP - you made the right move, life is too short for guns that don't work, and take longer to fix than they did to make. I firmly believe that Norinco makes a better, more consistent and more durable 1911 than Para. At least you can fix a Norc.

He wont be getting customer support on a used pistol any way.
If it is your first and you want a 1911 get a Norinco and spend the other 1000.00 on dress up or ammo.
You wont look back.
My only b!tch is that they are heavy, but that is good right?

So before you buy anything, go to 1911Forum.com and you can search for pretty much every type of pistol made and get the good and the bad. I've got a Para 18/9 LDA Ltd, Canadian made, and it's a gem. Excellent finish, stainless, no wear and shots dead on. If you can find a Canadian made Para then you've probably got no issues with finish, etc.

Gets you the date of mfg.
My 2 cents.
