Para SSP vs. CZ 75B for Standard Div

I would like to start off with a IPSC gun that can compete in standard division, major, probably .40 S&W. but I also want the gun to be able to take modifications in the future so that if I ever decide to compete in the open class I can.

Right now I'm looking at Para SSP and CZ 75B(or maybe tactical sport:rolleyes: ). Can anyone comment on the performance of these guns? Or just a general evaluation of 1911 vs. CZs is fine, too.

Things I'm interested in are, reliability, accuracy(and accuracy during rapid firing), how rapidly they can fire without mods, availability of parts.

Any explaination on the difference between the two type of guns are also greatly appreciated.

I realize standard guns have heavier frames so that more weight is put at the front to improve rapid 2nd shots. And in open guns, one of the purpose for compensators is also to add weight to the front. Would it be possible to change from a standard gun to open gun by just changing to an extended & ported barrel? (and of course add red dot sights and stuff)

hmmm... it might helped if you narrowed down your prefered division a bit ;best gun for "prod or std, with maybe open down the road"? LIttle hard to reply to that... ;)
 
I have both. Both are very much different guns with different features. The SSP is a great gun for competing with a .45acp. with 10 round mags. I would have to say widebody 10 rd mags are easier for some to do fast reloads with and the .45acp recoil may effect your speed for the follow-up shot.

The CZ I have is a DA/SA CZ 85. I like the gun, very accurate and recoil in the 9MM is certainly subdued. I have the older version and the sights, while adjustable, are not the fastest to pick up. The newer sights are better.

The trigger pull on the CZ is OK but nothing compares with the crisp break of a well tuned 1911 and the SSP I have breaks nicely around 4lbs very cleanly.

Of the two guns I prefer the SSP. Both are great guns.

- I have a Para SSP and love it. I have fired CZ's but do not own one. It largely depends on what caliber you want to shoot. I find the .45 a little too hot for a competition gun and will use either my P226 or another 9mm.
 
If you want to shoot standard then look at what the top shooters are using and have been for forever.... 1911 based designs.

Those are the guns that will allow you to shoot well in standard and will take modifications (like $1000's ) to any level of competition you like. Nearly every open gun I've ever seen is 1911 based (most are STI/SV or Para). I've never seen or heard of a CZ based open gun.

Not that they may not exist (especially in Europe) but here 1911s are the standard Standard. To depart from that may be possible, but also likely much more expensive and time consuming.

Finally double stacks are FAR more effective on the whole because reloads are easier. Don't get me wrong I love the single stack, but I took a whole second off my best time using a single stack WITH a magwell, when I tried out an unfamilliar Para double stack WITHOUT a magwell. In my case that second was about 35% of my reload time. This is pretty huge considering it was a gun I didn't know and I had no practice with.

Seriously consider a double stack 1911/2011 design if you are going to be serious about IPSC or like to be competitive.
