Para Vs. Springfield - both 45

Buying my first 1911 and I need some advice as I'm trying to wade through all the differing opinions on what is the best for the money.

I like the Para as the one I'm looking at is Canadian made - 2008 model, but barrel length is 4.5" and I was really wanting something longer.

The other option I was looking at was a Springfield 1911 - A1.

The Springfield is a little cheaper, but I like the look of the Para a little better, though it's shorter than the Springfield which is 5".

I've fired neither as I've been shooting a Glock up until now.

Opinions / advice would be very much appreciated.

I owned one Para 1911 and it's safe to say that I'll never own one again. What a POS. Maybe mine was made on a Friday afternoon or a Monday morning...

I compare it to my Kimber, and just can't fathom how Para charged what it did for what I got... when Kimber gave me so much more for about the same price.

I've never owned a Springfield, but I've shot them with others at the range... Springfield makes quite a pistol, to say the least.

Thus, if I had to choose Para or Springfield, I would choose Springfield any day of the week and twice if it was a Sunday.

SA told me when I called with some questions about the TRP that only the less expensive ones were made in Brazil and specifically the GI Model. The TRP and Customs models are all made in the US frames and slide included according to them. I also saw a new loaded model the other day that did not have the "made in brazil" stamped on it, but I am not sure about that model. Either way, the Loaded Model is a great buy to, another to consider with many options and variations available.

A good friend of mine has a Para and he swears by it, but it's also an older model and I've read that the quality control on these older Canadian built models was far better than that available on those being manufactured today.

I like the fact that the Springfield is just that much longer. I'd like a larger capacity mag too (Springfield is 7), but from everyone's comments, this may be the way to go as a starter in 45.
 
Personally, I'd take the Springfield over the Para any day.

But if I was new to the 1911 game I'd go for an STI Spartan via site sponsor 'Armco'.

He also has the spankin' new Norinco commanders if you want a 1911 with the 4.25" barrel.

I have a canadian made para tac-forty LDA spec ops edition. Nothing but great things came from canadian para's. I love it. Only problem is the green spec ops coating over the gun can chip off if struck on something very hard, ie metal or concrete but so would everythuing. Get it, it is a lot better then the american ones now. + it is F%CK!N& CANADIAN.
 
I have a Spring 1911 gi a1 and I realy love it. BUt its more a replica of old army colt without target style sight. Brasil Spring are realy well made! Colt have bad reputation on a lot american forum. ANd Dont wanna make some enemy but american dont know how to make good gun.lolll

Best Gun: Glock, Sig, Fhn, kalashnikov (after 60 years american finaly understand an make the rob xcr)...Anyway

Just kidding butt a real good 1911 its a most and you should have one!
 
I have a Para SSP and now that I have the bugs worked out of it, it shoots better than I can. I will say, it took a while to break it in and tweak things to make it run properly.
