Para

My Para 16.40 LTD would not keep the sights on, both front and back kept loosening after shootong IPSC Major .40 loads, to the point of almost falling off. I also had the slide stop peening problem.

It ran OK but it is the only gun I have ever sent back for warranty work (twice).

I had a Para SSP. The slide metal was a bit weird as the slide stop ‘notch’ peened with like a hundred rounds. Also the finish was not impressive. I lost like half the value on resale. Disappointing to say the least.
Mine is the SSP as well. The peening was a problem on mine also. I sent it back to Para when they were still in Canada and it came back fixed. I think there was a problem in the heat treat of the slide or perhaps a material problem. After a small tune up, it functions perfectly. They could have done better with the finish though, that "Regal" finish is, well, a crappy finish for an otherwise good firearm.

They were made in Scarborough originally, the company first started out by making airguns before they switched over. I remember using one years ago, and it worked quite well, with no problems.

They should have kept it totally Canadian..

Two things occurred at about the same time. The founder died and his estate had to be settled and their was a fear the US was going to severely restrict firearms entering the country. Canada represented about 10% of their sales so the move to the US had to be done.

In addition, and not unlike todays climate... doing business as a Canadian firearms based company with the US is not nearly as easy as compared to having a US office/subsidy, at least when it comes to wanting to sell product into the US market. As you've implied, the business case to have a US office etc was a needed business decision.
