I just bought a luger, first one for me. The fellow I got it from inherited it from his father who captured it in WWII. It is an S/42 (Mauser) dated 1937. And my question is this, why does it lack the Nazi Eagle stamp that was on everything they made then? It does have some eagles, but they are different and lack the Swastika.

Does it look like any one of these?

Luger markings

For one reason or another, they didn't put Swastika's on Lugers from that factory until 1940.

Have a look here.

I'm pretty sure K98's and other weapons didn't have Swastikas on them until after 1939 or 1940 or so either, but some other gunnuts 'in the know' may step in. Though Google works wonders. ;)

You Luger should only have Weimar eagles on it, not Third Reich swastika eagles. Those only appeared in 1938 or so on most weapons, and Lugers sometimes didn't have them until the 1940's depending on maker. S/42 is Mauser, by the way.
