I have a 4.5X14X40 LR Leupold scope. The side Parallax knob has very slight up and down movement. Knob is nice and firm when rotated and Scope seems to be accurate, but any others I have ever checked are tight with no up and down movement. It was to Korth once already, and seemed to be ok for a very short time, but now it is back again. Looking for others with LR models to check there parallax knob for a comparison. One of my shooting buddies has one, and it is perfectly tight! I am wanting to know if this is a problem, or if I am paranoid! Thanks

Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boone & Crockett reticule 30mm tube. With my particular rifle when sighted in @ 100, 300 pin is dead on, 350 & 400 are very close too! Instructions tell you to sight in @ 200, but I have a bad habit of shooting over critters so I am one of those who believe in a 100 yard sight in. and I have a 4.5X14X40 in a 1 inch also. It is not quite as clear & as bright as the 30mm tube, mind you that one lacks the parallax adjustment! Gotta say though, the new Elite 6500's are awfully nice! Think that is the route I would go if I was in the market now. Just my 2 cents though!

5 LRs and 2 Mark 4s. I can't find any movement in any of them in the adjustment itself, but the knobs are attached with 2 set screws so the outer housing can be turned so the reference marks can mean something. What I do is adjust the scope so it is parallax free at 100, then loosen the outer sleeve and rotate it so the first dots line up at that range.
If I try, I can get a tiny bit of movement there which doesn't mean anything, and can be eliminated by tightening the crap out the set screws for no good reason. Could this be what you are experienceing?

A guy from Korth Agencies sent me a private message stating if the shaft had movement this was not normal and to send it in. I removed the cap and checked it and found this to be true. I will be sending it away next week!

leopold scopes

I own every thing in Leopolds from an M8 4X to an 8.5 X 25 target scope and found them excellent. In the scopes without adj. objective lenses, the focus can be a bit confusing....
The newer scopes with the adj. objective knob back with the windage and vert. adj. knobs are much easier to use...
You get what you pay for........

Wookie316, thanks for the info. I’ve been contemplating between this LR scope with the 30 mm tube in a varmint reticle or a Mark 4 4.5 -14 x 40 mm LR/T.

My dilemma is the VXIII 4.5-14 , from what I’ve read has the reticle set for something in the speed of 22-250 and mine will be used for my .223. The Mark 4 has the adjustable knobs which is great for flexibility when shooting at long range but not sure how it would do for varmint hunting with quick shots. I did look at the Bushnell 6500 but unsure of warranty work. What to do !! Thanks...

I have a 4.5 x 14 LR set up with the Varmint hunter reticle for my .223. The weather has been too misserable to check it out completely, but the one time I took it to the range the snow was too deep out to the 200 yard berm so I just set it 2 inches high at 100 and tried it out to 500 on the gongs. It worked out to 400 but was low at 500. This is with 55gr vmax bullets and a medium load of 322 powder. As soon as I can get to the 200 yd. target frame I will do it properly, but my guess is with 40 gr. vmax it will be pretty close. I really like the side focus and think it would be the answer for gophers when spring finally hits. I use an ironing board for a bench and sit in a lawn chair to shoot gophers. Only thing missing is an umbrella for shade and a side table for snacks and beverage! I want to set up the video camera on a gopher and then shoot it with the 40 gr. vmax to see what happens in slow motion. It looks like they swell to about the size of a football before they explode!

Tony, sounds like you have a pretty good setup for shooting gophers.

Yeah that VX-III looks like excellent scope but my concern is shooting heavier bullets in the range of 69 gr. I’m not sure the varmint reticle would work well for that weight of bullet. This scope will be used for my target/coyote rig and I may have to go with the Mark 4 scope instead. Thanks for the info...
