Hi, I'm new to long range shooting, can someone please explain what parallax is. Also, any recommendations for a target scope to 1000 yards for under $1000.

Parallax, or the elimnation of it, is when your reticle and target are on the same focal plane. On scopes lacking parallax adjustment, they are usually pre-set at the factory for a given distance, say 120 yds. for a scope meant for a centerfire caliber. Scopes intended for use on a rimfire may be set parallax free at 25-30 yds. So, putting a centerfire rifle scope that lacks adjustment for parallax error will affect point of aim/impact at distances meant for rimfire shots, like 25-30 yds. The characteristic of the phenomonon(?) is that looking at a target @ 25 yds. with a scope that is parallax free at 150 yds. you will see the crosshairs move around the target as you move you head/eye around in the ocular field.
