PAra's Warthog

That would depend on calibre and action......

If the gun is .45 ACP, it would fit in Custom Defensive Pistol (CDP)

Any other calibre (9mm, .40 S&W), it would fit in Enhanced Service Pistol (ESP)

If it's a Para LDA, you could shoot it in Stock Service Pistol (SSP)

The gun would also have to meet division overall weight criteria as well as fit in the IDPA box.

For more info, go to the IDPA website and download the rules.

it'll need a longer barrel. you can't manufacture new 12-6's either, at least for sale in Canada. whoever you talked to at the CFC probably A) didn't understand what you meant, or B) was an idiot.

B) was an idiot.
What are the odds of that?

The way I understand it is you can take a 12-6 and convert it to restricted by adding a longer barrel (and calibre change if required) but you can not go the other way and make a 12-6 from a restricted. So once all the 12-6s are gone they are gone for good (well, bad actually) unless the law is changed. So you will never get a new 12-6 in Canada unless maybe it is brought in for the RCMP, military, or the border guards (they are) and then sold as used when they are done with them.

warthog

well I don't know everything don't claim to but what was explained to me was I couldn't import a new 12-6, so I said I didn't want to import just register a new one and was told to proceed in writting. So I'll try to proceed contacted a dealer friday and was told he'd get back to me first of the week he didn't have one in stock but would check with distributer and get me a price???

Who knows ????

Same CFC that told me I couldn't register a single shot cooey because I didn't have the right class on my PAL??? changed their mind when I spoke to a supervisor so what the hell am going to try???

Have never shot or seen the gun except in pictures but took a fancy to it so we'll see where it goes . Nothing ventured nothing gained

Best of luck with it. You might be right as maybe the law is worded differently than I thought. Just like those short barrelled Dlask shotguns or AR15 pistol mags.

There are a few small Para's that I would be interested in if they (being a Canadian company) would manufacture them with slightly longer barrels (but still on the small frame) for Canadians. But I really don't think they care about Canadians. :(

Good luck!

Don't get your hopes up SUPERMAG. It aint gonna happen.

The CFC clearly misunderstood you, the issue is that they will never issue a new civilian registration for a prohibited firearm, unless it comes out of the factory with a barrel over four inches, which would make it restricted.

CFC request

My request plain and simpleto CFC

I have 12-6 class on my RPAL can I purchase a New para ordance Warthog
Model Made in Ontario?? It would be a new 12-6 handgun???

Their reply
Mr. Hoy

Thank you for your correspondence.

If you have 12(6) on your licence, that will allow you to acquire other handguns that are prohibited. You will need to confirm with the business or individual what firearm is registered as. You will then need to apply to acquire the firearms through a transfer of the registration.

still hoping

Grnated, but thoretically... those guns are not registered to civilians yet. They are registered to the company of manufacture, and as such, they can only sell the 12(6) length gun to a company (in Canada) with a prohibited end-user certificate... or sell it beyond our borders.

You can only aquire 12(6) firearms that are currently registered in civilian hands. Simply because the gun is made in Canada does not override this.

waiting

Can only wait and see crazy things have happened . I know a fellow who got his 12-5 and 12-6 through grandfathering and last week purchased one of each and the transaction went through. Not supposed to happen either

supermag

No, what SUPERMAG is talking about is, his friends relative (father, grandfather) owned a prohib(s) firearm, passed away, and he went through the process of having them transfered over to himself without being previously grandfathered. I also helped a friend get this done. The issue is, the person is only allowed to own the firearms that he/she inherited, and are not allowed to acquire anymore prohib firearms (like the POL). But apparently the CFC goofed and allowed him to acquire some.

Your friend must have felt like he was picking on a retarded kid with calculus problems, eh SUPERMAG?:D

gandfathered

correct 338

I told him he was only allowed to keep the firearms that he inherited that were prohibited but he said he had purchased 3 more and was doing the paperwork that night. I went over and they approved the transfer and now he has new regs and the firearms .

so Cost me a case of beer even though I was right, but he allowed me to help him drink it so not so bad. as he said #### happens!!!

I can only hope

If he actually has the certs that means it went through the CFC and through the Provincial CFO. Then he is really lucky.

Let me guess, it wasn't in Ontario or Quebec.

Been there... done that. I have my 12 (7) and bought a few 12 (6). Unfortunately, I got a call about 3 months later and the transfers were reversed. Luckilly I was friends with the seller, so all went well.

I would bet your friend another case of beer that the CFC will be calling him soon... the CFC do make mistakes... but they dont remain mistakes forever.

The new Warthog will never happen. It is unfortuante, but someone at the CFC is feeding you a line of crap and clearly needs to brush up on current firearm laws. Call the RCMP in Ottawa who actually over see this, you will get a much differant answer from them.
