Parker Hale 1200TX marked Palma Trophy Match 1969

This is great! I eagerly await your info Ganderite, I'll post what I can find out about his military career tomorrow. Heh I guess I'm now on a quest to find a box of 1969 Palma 7.62!
I'll also be sure to post up a range report when this finally gets taken out for a spin.

I can't find the main batch of Palma material, but I did find some notes.

Canada started discussions about bringing back the Palma Match, in hopes of having a Palma in Canada as part of the 1967 Centenial. The 1966 Match at Camp Perry (USA) was a preliminary match to get the bugs out. The Americans supplied national Match M14s and it was shot with NM Ammo.

I have no notes on the 1967 Match in Canada.

In 1968 it was at Camp Perry again. Winchester M70s were supplied, equipped with Redfield 1/4 minute sights. The sights were poor. The Americans knew this and used an elastic band on their sight to take out the backlash. To this day, Canadian and Brit Palma Team members wear an elastic band around their team tie, as a sort of protest. The Americans were seen as "gamers".

E.L. Dunlop was a member of the Canadian Palma Team in '68, '69, 70, 74 & 79. I have his scores for some of those years.

The concept of host nation supplying rifles got dropped along the way. It was difficult and expensive to come up with so many rifles. In later years it was not unusual to have 6 or more teams, with South Africa, New Zealand and Australia becoming regulars.

In 1992 I was Captian of the Canadian Team at the Palma hosted by the Americans. We supplied our own rifles and they supplied the ammo. It was custom loaded in Winchester brass with about 48 gr of 4895 and the new Sierra 155 gr bullet. It shot very well.

Bill Ruger offered to supply target rifles to the USA team. This did not go very well for them. I suspect barrel quality was poor. In the end I don't know if any were used in the match, although I did see some guys using one or two in the preliminary matches. We beat the Americans by a wide margin, but the Brits beat us. The Brit Team Capatain was Colin C.C. Cheshire, know by all as C4.

Enfield Envoy PALMA MATCH BISLEY 1970

Good Day,
When I was stationed in the UK, I was offered the opportunity to purchase two Envoy's including one marked PALMA MATCH BISLEY 1970. I shot E329 only once at Bisley before I returned with it to the US. While at Bisley, I tried to find out from the NRA and from Fulton's if there was any record of the shooter but no luck. Any leads on the participants would be appreciated.
Regards,
Michael

This rifle looks a lot like the Canadian C3
Loved the C3 Sniper P/H 1200 in 7.62 nato
learned sniper skills in the 80s on it.
Airborne

Ummm? No. The L39 looks like the L42A1. The Parker Hale 1200 or Canadian C3 is a very different rifle, although designed by men who were influenced by target rifles in the UK.

Just to put a face with the name E.L.Dunlop. Took these last night from our wall of fame at our Shooting Performance center. First one Dunlop second row from the top on the far left.

Third man from right sitting, with glasses. Paul Gutnick who past away just last year sits to his left and Doran Sewell is standing behind him.

Some of the photo's indicate E. Dunlop, some E.L. Dunlop.

I see George McCartney in the 1 photo. I shot at Bisley with him and bantered at the Canada House dinners.
Great history you got there.

Last time i saw George was at the AGM last spring, he gave me some old shooting jackets to add to the clubs historical collection.

So I was flipping through the 1979 Gun Digest deluxe edition and this popped out to me. Not the Palma marked rifle I have but close! Adjusted for inflation it's apparently the equivalent of $1160 today. Thanks for posting those pictures Bob, it's cool to put a face to the story!

I also picked up some Hirtenberger 7.62 NATO to sling through this thing, hopefully it's accurate enough to plink with. Anyone else try that stuff out?
