parker hale built 284 win range report

Maybe the 150's aren't the best , the reason I used them was I talked to 2 different friends who told me they were awesome on moose maybe use the 30 06 with 180's instead then.

I wouldn't hesitate to use a 7mm 150 Ballistic Tip on moose.

I put one out of a 7 Mag at 3100 and hit a decent WT at 160 yards. Impact velocity would have been about 2800 and it went thru 3+ feet of deer taking out two ribs on the way in and a chunk of spine out on the exit.

It'll go thru a moose if you don't hit a big bone.

That's the clincher, whackin' heavy bone. Tis why I go with the heaviest bullet that will function in the rifle's action and push it at a velocity that won't cause it to shatter within the design limits of the projectile upon hitting heavy bone.

I have a heavy target rifle chambered in 284 win, barrel length is 27 3/4". I use Lapua 6.5X284 brass necked up, with 180 Lapua Scenars, CCI BR2 and H4831SC. Currently running a mild load running at 2780fps with 12 fps ES, I also crimp my loads as I find this helps with ES. This rifle hammers the metal gongs very hard, and I would not hesitate to load up a 160 Nosler AB or Partition and use it for moose, or even some 154 GMX or IB, they would do the trick as well.

I am getting extremely good accuracy from this rifle, in the .2s and .3s when I don't miss the wind calls, but then I find the wind does very little to this combination out to 500 meters, thats when I have to pay real close attention!

Good luck with your new shooting iron, looks awesome with the Parker Hale action!
