I recently have acquired a CIL 972-C .270 cal rifle. I know this is made by Parker Hale, as it says made in England on the barrel. My question, is what is it's age? and exactly which model of Parker Hale is it?

1000C Safari?
1000C Standard?
Parker Hale 1100 [ first model ]
Parker Hale 1100 [ second model ]
Parker Hale 1200 C Safari

Some characteristics;
24" barrel, folding rear sight, ramped front
Has BNP marked on both action and barrel
Serial number R-35###
No rosewood nose on the fore stock, but it is "wedge" shaped, and has palm swell with sharp edges
Pistol grip has thin white spacer with rosewood cap, butt has thin white spacer with rubber recoil pad. Monte Carlo type stock. Swivel studs.
Detachable box magazine
Bolt is white / polished, not blued. Trigger mounted safety with "two bumps on it" design. Bolt is curved down and out, has a flat surface on most of the top of the bolt handle, bolt knob it solid and totally round and polished.

I have not pulled the action out of the stock, as this requires tapping out the roll pin on the trigger guard. I tried, but it wouldn't budge.......and I didn't want to bugger it. Thus, I cannot see any markings on the underside of the action or barrel.

Thanks for your help gents!

I'm guessing by your description that the receiver does not have a "thumb cut-out" indicating a military action?
Yours sounds like a 1200C equivalent rebranded to Canadian Industries Limited (CIL).

I got a 972-C .270 for my 16th birthday gift in 1973. I think it was around $160 at the time. I still have it. Accurate as hell and I shot a lot of game with it.

A couple years later I bought a Parker-Hale Model 1200c .243

Shame on you Parker Hale for calling it a clip. ;)

Thanks for the info guys.

I have dredged up some more info on Parker Hales...... maybe it will be of help to determine which model PH I have.
I know that PH's in models 1000C came with a detachable box magazine. It seems lots of guys say that if it has clip, then it has to be a 1200C......my research says otherwise.

Here is a link that explains the different models and the evolution of the Parker Hale models;
http://www.pmulcahy.com/bolt-action_sporting_rifles/british_ba_spr_c-z.htm

There is a fellow that goes by "brithunter" on various forums. He seems to have pretty good knowledge of the PH's as he collects the PH yearly catalogs from way back in the 60's.

Here is a pic of his PH 30-06 1100 Deluxe.
My 270 looks EXACTLY like it except for the cap on the pistol grip. Mine is dark, possibly stained wood, may or may not be rosewood, dunno. I can't see the DBM in his pic, maybe it has a floor plate or maybe the clip is no in the action....

What he has to say about his model 1100 Deluxe.....

Now my search about Parker-Hales began with the purchase of a model 1100 De Luxe in 30-06 and after being told be about five different people, dealers and two ex P-H employees, that it was a Safari, Super Safari and a Safari deluxe  it was the lucky discovery of a P-H catalogue #73/4 on a stand at a Bisley Arms fair that i brought as it had my rifle in it and yep it's an 1100 De Luxe:-

Interesting.
Was it brand new back in 1973? Gives me an idea as to when the CIL versions were imported.

I'm almost certain that mine is the Santa Barbera mauser. No thumb cut out.

1200C?? I cannot find any pics or descriptions of 1200C rifles that have a stock like mine. Not saying that they didn't come with them, just that I have found no info to support it. The closest yet to my gun is the 1100 Deluxe model like the pic [ brithunter's ] that I posted.

About your 972-C......
Is the barrel free-floating? I can slip a .005" thick piece of heavy paper between the stock and the barrel. It gets tighter 1.5" before where the barrel meets the action, and I cannot get the paper under / between where the sling stud is on the forestock. This may be intentional upward barrel pressure from the stock? Dunno. Is yours like that?
Another thing...... have you taken that trigger guard roll pin out, to be able to remove the action from the stock? If you have the DBM, it has to come out for disassembly. The pin on mine doesn't wanna budge.

I haven't shot it yet. Just getting some reloading supplies for it.

Does your 972-C look like the one in the pic I posted?
Any chance that you can post a pic?
Have you been able to determine exactly which PH model it matches?

No. But the stock is sleeker at the forearm then the ones on the 1200C Parker Hales. They do seem to more closely match the 1100 in looks.

Thanks CZ, for posting the pics of your 972-C.
That looks like mine exactly.
Is your barrel free floating the whole length? Mine it tight at the swivel stud.....can't pass paper under it. Curious if your's is the same?
From what I can determine, the twist *should be* 1 in 10. I made an attempt to figure out the twist with a tight fitting patch in the bore, but every time I tried, I got differing results, lol.

I was at the local gunsmith today explaining that I could not tap the roll pin out from the mag-release mechanism. He said that it should not be a roll pin, but rather a solid pin. So someone has removed or lost that original pin along it's existence. He told me to use a very short length of 1/16" drill bit as a punch and hit it with a BFH. If I ever get it out, I'll try using a solid length of the correct size drill bit shank as a better replacement pin. I would like to refinish the stock if it turns out to be an accurate shooter.

Picked up some 130gr SST Hornady bullets to try.
Does yours like a specific bullet and bullet weight?
