Good morning, I don't post very often but I sure do read (and learn) a lot on this forum!

I recently purchased a PH Custom No 4, I like these old guns as they shoulder so well for me and shoot good. It is missing the rear flip up site. I have scoured the web to see if I can get a picture of the site to try and identify it so I can start trying to locate it. No luck as of yet. This is not the military site that came on a lot of PH sporters but the site that is on the barrel I think cut in by a dove tail.

Does any one have this model of PH that might be able to tell me (or send me a pic) what the site is?

Any information on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great day!

Thanks

Derrick

Hey Ted, thanks for your reply, I will not have the gun until late today or tomorrow. The only one I can remember, from a long time ago was a dovetail but I will not be sure until I see the rifle. I will get right back to you with the answer ASAP.

Thanks for the response Buckbrush. No this is a PH No 4 that has been factory rebuilt to a sporting rifle. On the Custom model they removed the receiver sight and added a brand new barrel which an adjustable flip sight was installed. I should have the rifle today.

Hi Tick, thank you for your reply, I am not looking for the flip up battle sight. I am looking for the Lyman type sight that fits in the dovetail (or sometime attaches with screws) on the barrel.

Any decent gunsmith should be able to get you the original flip up battle sight.

But as was said, on a PH Custom conversion it doesn't use the original rear sights. On the Custom PH machined the mount area away so they can't. (The Supreme and lesser variants can still have original rear sights.)

Hi Ted, I received the rifle today and it does indeed have the dove tail to fit the sight into. Does the sight you have use the dove tail is it from a PH rifle. I think it might just be a lyman type sight.

That is the gun and the sight right there! Thanks Shell Shucker! That one is in much better shape than mine but I am still looking for another. Triggers were nothing to brag about but I love to shoot this rifle. Mine has a more rounded mag on it which I think came out when they first started making this model.
The metal on mine is great but the stock has a lot of flaking of the original finish. Just going to lightly finish if of in Linseed oil I think.

Again thank you for the information.

You're welcome. These are good, honest rifles with legendary reliability & in a cartridge that has proven itself in taking game (And foes.) the world over. Decent target loads are easily loadable for the .303 British.

Enjoy fixin' yers up.:)

Thank you for any help
Gaurdian

Hi Gaurdian, I was able to get a Lyman 16 site from a member on this site. If you PM me I will give you his information so you can contact him to see if he has any more as I think he does.

Also I think the original scope mount might be hard to get but weaver does make one as well. Parker Hale rings are getting a little harder to find as well but they are out there..

Thanks
