Heya everyone,

Just picked up a Parker Hale 30-06 in a trade.

Serial number starts with R

Underside of the stock is stamped with a ‘Y’ at 9 o’clock and a ‘B’ at 3 o’clock and a ‘2’ at 6 o’clock

Looking for year of mfg. and model, any other information greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Not all models marked Safari, have detachable magazines, and not all models with d-mags are Safari's.

The most common PH model is the 1200, but if you want more information, a picture would help.

The normal way to tell if it's a 'safari' model is to see if it has 'safari' stamped on the barrel or receiver.

PH made rifles using military Mauser actions and later used commercial actions mostly made by Santa Barbara. The military ones are easy to spot as they have the stripper clip thumb cut out on the receiver and the commercial ones don't. These are generally regarded as really good shooting rifles, I've had several and never found one that doesn't shoot better than most production rifles of that era. They're a relatively unknown treasure as far as working rifles go in my opinion.
Unfortunately PH doesn't seem to have kept much in the way of records and even ascertaining a manufacture date is difficult but the Santa Barbara actions were used mostly in the 60's and 70's.

I just dug up a bit more info that might help you with your question.

The 'Y' you refer is presumably to the left of the crossed lances and would be the date code so yours should be 1973, and the 'B' to the right of the crossed lances should be Birmingham.

Year codes were 1950 - A; 1951 - B; 1952 - C; 1953 - D; 1954 - E; 1955 - F; 1956 - G; 1957 - H; 1958 - J; and so on through to 1974 - Z; and the 'B' stands for Birmingham.

Hey thanks a lot! Can’t figure out how to post pics.

YB is 1973 and the "2" is the inspector code, by that date, they didn't likely have the Safari stamped. If you can at least thell what type of stock (Schnabel, MC with rosewwoed fore end, beavertail stoc etc...) the, it would be possible to tell you what you have....

My father purchased a Safari in 1971 or 1972 and it was marked Safari, if memory served it was on the barrel not the receiver.

I was thinking about the time lines that he purchased that safari and actually I think it was more like 1969 or 1970, not 71 or 72.

I am fond of these rifles. I have 2, built on the Santa Barbara platform.
Both are chambered 308 Norma Magnum, and have the Model 81 "Classic"
stock. Both are very good shooters, and I prefer the Classic stock to
the regular Monte Carlo design most PH rifles wear. Dave.

Hey,

Stock is all one solid piece no fancy tip.
It is Monte Carlo style with hard cut, clean checkering.
Has some figure.
Has scope mounts, they appear unused, entire rifle appears ‘new’
Has fold down iron sight and hooded front
No “Safari” on barrel, just ‘BNP’ with crown and the caliber (30-06)
On the bottom of the barrel (under the stock) the crossed sword stamp says YB with 2 underneath.

Thanks for all the input, I don’t know how to post pics, maybe I can figure that soon here...

Is there a source for the PH trigger with side safety? A buddy needs one as his housing cracked.Don't mean to hijack .
