Hi all,
I spent hours online looking for help identifying a pals new rifle. It's in 30 06 with a 22 inch barrel, detachable mag and flip up rear sight. I thought of a 1200C but no rosewood tip and pistol butt cap.
Sorry about the pics, I can get him to take more detailed photos. Any valuations would be good as I think he over paid at $600
Thanks

It is called a MIDLAND model. The Midland was the lowest priced of the Parker Hale line and though decent quality I think your friend did indeed overpay at $600. To me that is a $400 rifle tops. My 2 cents.

I don't think it's a Midland model, the Midland didn't have a detachable mag and was a commercial hybrid between a Mauser 98 and a Springfield 03. As such, I believe it's a 1100/1200 C. IIRC the "C" denotes "clip".

I have a CIL 932 that is very close to that model. If it shoots anything like mine I think your buddy did fine for 600$.

Marstar had a PH Safari it looked like in 30'06 with decent old Redfield for $525 in close to new condition....just sold recently but was there for a long time.

If the seller got $600.00 he/she did well... the buyer on the other hand , not so good.
I had a 1200c in 300winmag with a Leupold scope that I had a hard time getting $650.00 for it many years ago.
finally broke the kg down and it sold...even had a spare magazine for it.
So he over paid for it, so what do not dwell on that fact and shoot it for what it it is a utility gun.
Tight Groups,
Rob

Thanks for the input guys.
I want to take a better look at it, the m1000 looks pretty close. Yeah it seemed kinda pricy and he got it for is wife at a gun show. (not the best place to find deals) It did come with a cool looking old school weaver scope, a V7 W, pretty blued tube with a "TV style" rectangular eyepiece. Very fine crosshairs.
They are going to bring it to the range with some reduced loads/bullet weights as she felt the recoil was kinda hard on her, compared to their remington 700 in 3006.
Any other suggestions/input would be appreciated.

is it possible to post a few pics of the receiver, bolt release/extractor and bolt? I suspect it might be a variant of the 1000 or 1100 - but not a Midland at this point. I owned a Midland and it does not fit that bill.

The rifle in the picture is a PH 1000C. When they started sporterizing mauser 98 actions they were using military actions.( they have the charger thumb slot on the left action rail. Some of the first ones had the military type floorplate. PH then started putting hindged floorplates on the rifles. That was soon changed to the detachable magazine version which was called the 1000 C. When their supply of military actions started to dry up they used a few Brno actions but quickly went to Santa Barbra for their actions. These are the std commercial 98 action with NO thumb slot on the left side of the action. They continued to make the 1000 C for a short while then started producing the deluxe version called the 1200 C. They also started making the model 1100 rifle which had a plainer stock and a hindged floorplate for those who did not care for the detachable magazine.

The first P-H Mausers were not called 1000/1100 1200 etc, they were simply called "Safari". They were made on ex-military scrubbed actions, but they soon adopted the Las Coruña (Santa Barbara) action because they supplied in the white actions. The 1000 /1200 etc series did appear somewhere around 1965, and before, whath we call the 1200 was named "Safari Super" and there was also a Safari De Luxe (schnabel fore end + recoil pad), Safari Magnum (.375 H&H only, much like the De Luxe) and Safari Standard (round fore end + white spacer hard butt plate).

From the pics, the OP's rifle seems to be a 1000C.
