I haven't had much luck doing my research on finding dating these rifles.

I have an 1100 with the serial number R-XX071... any help? There's no annuli on these suckers

Now how do you think anyone could date that from the serial number, when you x out, the most imprtant two numbers?

Serial doesn't help on P-H rifles. You need to provide the Birmingham proof stamp. It's an "X" surrounded by letters / numbers and is located on the barrel. A good picture of the whole stamping would help.

The circle has B (upper left) C (upper right) 4 (bottom)

Actualy, it's 17 tons (long english tons) per (square) (") "inches".

The circle is post 1974, B - C (and C - B) are 1977, the "4" is the viewer's mark.
The BNP is Birmingham Nitro Proof.

You should also find a grinded area on the left side of the tang with the fainted letters "SPAIN". That's the La Coruna arsenal, or a "Santa Barbara" action, if you prefer.

couldn't find the spain stamp... but there is one spot that looks like something was removed

I thought I read somewhere that the 6.5x55 chambered rifles were produced in 83... but I can't find the article again

and I don't know what the M/M means

M/M = millimeters... they chambered the 1100/1200 in 6.5X55 for European market through the late '60s, '70s and until they stopped producing them in the late '80s. Your rifle was definitely made in 1977 as '83 proofmark is J - B... I don't know were you got the info it was only made in 1983 but it's sure wrong.

The 1000/1100 is the standard grade (without skip-line and with a small schnabel tip) and the 1200 is the "de Luxe" model, with skip-line checkering and rosewood fore end, plus adjustable trigger which was an option on the other models.
For '84, they introduced a lighter version of the 1100 with hollow bolt pommel and alloy trigger guard / floorplate.

Not sure where I had read that. Maybe that was my 7mm_08 (which was a 22-250). Same model.

My 25_06 I had built off of a 1200. Ended up breaking the rcoil lug and dressed it in a cheap syntehtic stock. Heavy as hell now but a straight shooter.
