Way back when I was a kid (about 50 years ago) 'sporterized' military rifles were the norm( nobody turned their nose up at them) 'Parker Hale' was the name associated with high quality ex military rifles. Most were 303 British ,some with sporterized military stocks and others with new walnut stocks.
I see Tradeex has a couple in 65 x55 swede, didn't know PH had them in that caliber. I saw one in 7 mm mag, 270 and 30 06
Anybody own or use a PH? They seem solid and good value

I haven't heard of PH sporter conversions of any surplus military rifles in 6.5x55mm, and I don't know if any military using the Mauser 98 had it chambered for that cartridge. The Swedes certainly had the Mauser 96 in 6.5x55mm.

PH did use war surplus Mauser 98 actions but they didn't just convert military rifles, they built many hunting rifles with commercial Mauser 98 actions (I think most were sourced from a Spanish maker, Santa Barbara) mated to PH's own barrels. The 6.5x55mm PH rifles I see in Trade Ex's listing are described as "Commercial 98."

I have a few PHs and always found them to be very good rifles. Not always real fancy but very functional.

I have a PH 1200C in 7mm Mag that has been my hunting rifle for years. Mauser bolt that is sloppy but always opens and closes, no matter the weather. The barrels are thin as well, making them quite light to carry in the bush.

I bought a PH chambered in 303 years ago,as much for nostalgias sake as anything,I used to lust over them when I was a kid,but couldn't afford one . Never used it though as I moved in to the 65x55 swedes which are ideal for deer hunting, the 303 is a little overkill for coastal Blacktails.funny though, the 7mm Mag used to be the 'hot' caliber but you don't hear much about them anymore...meanwhile the 'old' calibers are soldiering on..and putting meat in freezers
