Hey sorry if this is the wrong forum but here goes: For a shotgun that has a parkerized finish, what is a good product to initially get all the factory crap off of the finish that will soak in and protect it. Remington (naturally) recommends their Remoil. Would CLP also do the trick or is there something better?

Heavy grease, generously applied and then baked in.

Oils and even lighter greases tend to either run off and/or evaporate when the gun gets hot.

Parkerizing's ability to hold in Cosmoline or some other heavy grease is pretty much the whole point of having that finish, without it it's pretty underwhelming.

A polarized rust preventative like Birchwood Casey Sheath (aka Barricade) or Outers Metalseal works great.
