Isn't it parked under the paint?
The finish is pretty durable as is.
Gunpaint would be an easy solution to you color issue.
to give you a hint how durable the paint is , i was shortening a mag and placed it on a red hot element to avoid snapping off when bending , it didnt burn even after 30 sec , it just turn to a dark olive color, HEY!!! i wouldnt mind that color .![]()
That's interesting sounding. I wonder if you took a small torch to it if you could get an even colouring throughout.
no .... not a torch ,and not on the main rifle .
actually , a member did use a torch on a mag and he said it burnt the paint , i have used the electric stove a dozen times and have yet to burn the paint , i believe the aluminum spread the heat evenly thru out the shorten mag so therefore avoid burning , matter of fact only the cut ends are touching the red hot element bcos thats where im bending the lip for the bottom plate and yet the whole shorten mag changed to dark OD . its still durable , no flaking , no melting .
Hey Currton, any chance you can post a how-to on the mag shortening?
Ya the torch may be too concentrated of a heat source to do a large area.
Maybe you could put in the oven on bake for 45 mins and get an even temperature rise gradually and thus a colour change that way. Could try just doing a small piece at first to see how it goes.
