Is the parkerized finish on the Rem 700P is weather resistant???. I know it's not stainless and it is surely better than traditionnal blue, but what is your hunting experience with that kind of finish?

I may consider buying a 700P or LTR for hunting.

thanks

"...weather resistant???..." Um, yeah. That's part of the point of using it. However, like CanAm says, it doesn't mean you don't need to oil the steel.

I agree that oil never hurts, but i was wondering if some of you have ever used a 700P i a hunting environnment, witch is quite different from a shooting range.

Park is a tougher more resistent finish period.
Hunting, shooting doesn`t matter it is tougher and more rust resistant then blue. Keep it cleaned and oiled or both will rust.

My suggestion would be... IF ur going to use it for hunting, go with the LTR.
I made the mistake of trying the P for hunting (im talking deer) and it was so impractical I actually put it away and hauled out my SKS that i had brought for using later on varment. The long heavy barrel makes it great for shooting, i love the gun, but animals dont stand still for very long and it just wasn't mobile enough to get the shots off. Of course, to be fair, this was up north a ways so it was fairly close quarter hunting. When i go out this fall, out on the praries, I'll probably give it another try.
