Parkerizing and blueing questions

If anyone is looking for cast iron tanks - I looked into having the Bowmanville Foundry cast some up for me at one point (though I don't remember the cost & never actually had it done) - but they will do it.

just sayin...

Just FYI, this might not be quite as good as trad. hot bluing, but there is Mark Lee Express Blue.which doesn't require a special tank. After heating the part and swabbing on the solution, the part is submerged in boiling water for 5 minutes before removing the "rust" with (de-oiled) steel wool. Takes 5+ applications. Brownells sells it (altho. not sure about shipping to Canada); I got some through Henry at Budget Shooter Supply to blue a previously-parked 38 S&W barrel.

FWIW, got some good reviews on Brownells, and Castboolits.

I mentioned before that I've done a couple 1911's with homebrew parkerizing chemicals, and yesterday I did one using a commercial solution. The commercial solution turned out way nicer than the homebrew stuff that I linked to. Much more even finish, not at all splotchy. This could be because the homebrew solutions I used had sediment in them, and might have worked better if I'd run them through a coffee filter before use, but I'm a fan of the store bought stuff now. It also didn't stink, so I can do it on the stove instead of outside.
