I got my shorty. It is somewhat well finished on the outside and poor on the inside. Here are my open sights in dark weather with poor eyes, groups:

The two shot group was the last one. I used Federal 145 Gr soft point. I might not need to handload to get sub MOA!

I am using a Versapod with the TROY S.A.S.S. chassis. I got the TROY grip, last week. I am waiting for the Sadlak spring op guide rod. I have ordered a new spring from Brownells and an extended bolt stop. I got to weld up the gas system next before everything goes into the chassis. I am ordering a Leupold Tactical scope, not sure which magnification yet.

Here is another pic of the before:

BTW, the trigger is not bad, a lot of no feel creep with a crisp let off. Any suggestions to get increased accuracy?

Regards,
Henry;)

To build an M25, you must first start with a genuine LRB hammer forged M25 receiver.
I have one in front of me that just arrived today. :D , too bad it's not mine :(
It's getting a matte stainless Krieger Designated Marksman Rifle barrel, an as new trw bolt, as new H&R tigger, a RWB oprod, usgi gas system, sadlak piston, brookfield precision NM guide rod, and some other goodies. :D

I can get a H&R trigger. It might be worth it. Will it make a difference in group size a GI or Sadlak gas system? I will first try the Norc barrel before switching. As previously mentioned, I plan on converting next year, to 7-08 as it has better ballistics and I have a large number of properly prepared match brass: flash holes uniformed, primer cups uniformed, neck turned and uniformed as well as chamfered. I have several loads in 7-08 that give me 3 shot one hole groups at 100M in my 700 BDL and 1/2 inch in an XP-100.

I am still undecided on the Leupold scope. Any ideas?

Regars,
Henry;)

Has LRB ever fixed the issue of the inside of its receiver heel having too much radius on the bolt abutment flat?

The thing with an LRB receiver is... You don't just get to drop the parts in. You get a high quality item that requires a knowledgeable riflesmith with the correct tools and guages. I've built a few of these now and only 1 required some careful detailing inside the receiver heel. LRB is the pinnacle of M14 receivers by a long shot. The rear lug M25 I recently finished up for Giwolf was a pure pleasure to build it went so smooth. I hear the rifle is sub moa but still waiting for Giwolf to post it up with pics :D

If your looking at Leupold scopes, I personally recommend the Leupold MKIV 3.5-10x40, it's what I use and it's a fantastic scope.

x2

I got a great deal on a Mark4 LR/T 3.5-10x40mm with M1 turrets and I absolutely love it! I'm now saving my pennies for an LRB M25. Those things are absurdly bad-ass!

Its bedded to a McMillan now but I'm not getting what I would consider sub moa. I seem to always get 3 touching and 2 flyers that open my group up to 1.5". This is with winchester ammo so I'm hoping to tighten that up cause that's not much different than my bolt gun gets with that ammo, or that's just as good as I can shoot, LOA.

I haven't learned to post pics yet but once I get the handloads through her I may have to. Beautiful gun though. Thanks Doc.:D

I don't doubt LRB makes a nice product, but they have used a sixaxis ball cutter to compromise on not having a 90 degree facing head in their machine shop.

Nobody builds to USGI, but believe it or not, Norinco does not make this same manufacturing compromise.

For the price of an LRB, I keep waiting for them to fix this issue, but nothing yet.

As you are probably aware, I know a bit more about this platform than the average parts installer, in fact I'll bet most reading this thread don;t even know what I'm talking about lol.

You're right though, it's fixable and they build into a nice rifle.

??? So if Ted Brown says (as I do) that they are not made to milspec and used different machining technicques (as I do) and that the ybuild into nice rifles (as I agree), then I'm owned...?

Am I missing something?

Fact is sometimes USGI bolts don't drop into LRB's without fitting. Likely there is more tolerance range on the rear face of a GI bolt than on the LRB receiver. It can be fixed if LRB changes just one simple machining operation that would require them to switch the receiver to a different machine at the end of their sixaxis program and prior to heat treatment to machine a round face at the back of the receiver heel.

They don;t do this because time is money. Simple as that.

What's yer point with all this? Who cares , no one here used the words "milspec" , except for you. They are without a doubt the finest commercial m14 receiver on the planet... No?
Oh.... And how many have you built? And in doing so, how did you deal with any fitment issues? Or did you just regurgitate a bunch of technical data that you read on the internet?
I'll go back to my hovel and continue building rifles now :D

I don't claim anything is milspec other than military M14's...? Where did I claim that?

I also conceded it's perhaps the best commercial receiver out there? MAYBE the rare SEI receivers are slightly better, but that's splitting hairs. I haven't built on one, but have fixed a bolt fitment issue on one.

Whatever. I have a long background in manufacturing processes and I'm not going to defend my take on LRB's manufacturing processes and chosen shortcuts. Don't take my word for it - I really don't care if you do or not.

I would be more impressed if you used your experience in manufacturing processes to manufacture the "perfect" m14 receiver.
Let us know when it's done ;)

I got the spring and Daslak extended bolt release from Brownells yesterday. The Daslak op spring guide will arrive during the weekend. I am Looking into a Smith Enterprise Gas cylinder, gas piston (or Sadlak) and gas plug. I will also order the oversized mag release.

I have finalised on a Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14X50 L/RT. I will then group the Federal 150 Gr hunting loads before looking into handloads.

An interesting project with a final destination of a 7-08 chambering!

regards,
Henry;)

I guess I'm the odd man out........I find TRW receivers to be the pinnacle of M14 goodness........:D.........TRW learned from the others mistakes............LRB receivers are very nice, but the price isn't so nice........... ;)
