I'm wondering if parts are interchangeable 100% between Norinco and actual 1911A1s. I've seen a few "mixed" handguns where the slide is original on a Norc frame, but can internals/mags et al be swapped between?

I would love to hear from someone who owns both and has swapped parts between 'em.

(Please don't rag on me about using the search. I tried, but failed.)

Pretty much interchangeable, given that these pistols have been made for a long time by different manufacturers. Tolerances can stack up.

I swapped out the ambi safety on my Norc 1911A1 for a single sided unit. Dropped right in but didn't function 100% Took it into the local smith and now it's good to go :)

Norinco is as real as taurus, springfield or any other 1911 not built by the great John in the sky, peace be upon him.

I thought I read that the sights were hard to switch out? I have been mulling a Norc Sport model for a while. My lack of interest in .45ACP is the only thing stopping me.

Yep, the sights and the grip screw bushings are not interchangeable. On a Norinco Government 1911, I have an aftermarket trigger, extended spring guide, beavertail and hammer, plus a Colt mainspring housing. No problemo. Beavertail needed minor fitting.

FWIW, in the past a namebrand gunsmith included Norinco together with Colt and Springfield Armory, in their very short list of preferred 1911 manufacturers (according to a thread in the 1911forum). That should speak volumes about parts interchangeability between Norinco and at least Colt and SA. The main reason Norinco is no longer in that short list is due to the extreme hardness of the steel used in their frames and slides that resulted in expensive tools being worn out in machining them for Bo-Mars and the like.

I put a Novak rear sight, a new narrow tenon front sight (Kings I think) and a Wilson slide stop on my Norinco NP 29 and they all went on fine.

Good to hear it. Some people have been "warning" me about Norc 1911A1s *after* I bought it, so I had some concerns. What I've read here matches what I've read elsewhere from those who own them.

Not that I'd ever do anything to change the pristine beauty that is the 1911-A1 GI Slabsides.

out of al lthe norinco guns i have used, the 1911a1 and the 870 copys are the best, oww and the AK, M14 is not bad, but the sig and cz copies are really bad.

Yeah, I have NP-34 and did not know it's bad until your post...:runaway:
Would you mine to explain why it's bad?

Thank you.
