I have a 60’s colt trooper, and I have been looking for a 6 inch barrel for it for years. Tried on the ee and other gun part sources in Canada. Anybody know of a place or person that is a source for colt double action revolver parts such as barrels? Would this be possible to import from the states? Thanks

I would try Numrich Arms. Unless you're very lucky you'll be buying out of the states. Yes, you can import gun parts, you just have to do the paper work, as does the seller which seriously hinders the people who are willing to sell to us. - dan

If I'm reading their shipping FAQ correctly Numrich won't ship anything like that to Canada. They also say that anything paid for with a Canadian credit card must be shipped to Canada so that would seem to preclude having it sent to someone like IRunGuns for export to Canada.

edit Yep

In re-reading that section of Numrich's website it looks like I was confused. They talk about "up to $500" which would seem to indicate that they do ship firearms parts to Canada.

It is confusing though......not the clearest set of rules.

GOVERNMENT RESTRICTIONS
The United States Government has export restrictions in place for items such as barrels, barrel blanks, cylinders, receivers, frames, bolts, high capacity magazines (over 10 rounds), shotgun magazines, shotgun magazine extension tubes, shotgun complete trigger mechanisms, scopes etc. Additionally, we have company restrictions in place for the following common items: solvents, flashhiders, suppressors, muzzle brakes, speed loaders, bipods, monopods, gas masks, and flare pistols.
We will not ship ANY parts for ANY fully automatic firearm.
COMPANY POLICY

Orders paid for with a USA based credit card can be shipped to Canada.
We accept orders from Canada with a purchased parts value up to $500.
Orders containing restricted parts requiring an export license from the U.S. Department of State are not accepted.
We do not obtain export licenses through the State Department.
Orders for firearm parts from Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands may be subject to additional filing requirements and can take more than 48 hours to process.
Please note the dealer discount is not available for our Canadian customers.

They wouldn't ship me a barrel for a Colt when I called them 2 months ago. Apparently barrels are strictly ITAR controlled and they said they didn't want the hassle.

Just have your gunsmith make a new barrel.

Much easier with a Colt than a S&W.

If you are not a gunsmith , they likely don't want all the hassle, and there is lots of it.

BTW, I barrel maker, cut a piece off a 38 cal savage rifle barrel and threaded it , and it worked super, years ago , some one had chopped it and made a fast draw gun, trigger guard cut and barrel about 2 or 3 inch, that was a trooper as well , .D.A.o and nicest trigger I have seen up till that time.
There was a scope mount on it, so we did not mess with the front sight, which we never had.

Unless you take care of the permits and use a broker, you'll be lucky to find a place that ships to Canada from the us. Even then a lot of places (like Numrich and other retailer) won't even make exceptions to use an exporter. E.g. CZ would not sell me a barrel through Profit or IRGs. You could try gunbroker.

Hopefully you luck out in Canada as most of these solutions could be expensive for a trooper.

Wow that is actually insane how difficult it is to get a legal pistol barrel shipped here across a border that someone could simply wander across with a backpack full of illegal handguns if they wanted. Drives me nuts how badly the law abiding are punished.

Gunbroker could work though? Any dealings with gunsamerica?

I find it is easier to buy a full pistol from the US than some of the controlled parts. Process is a little clearly and maybe margins make it worth their time to fill out the one page paper that IRG and Profit requires. But as mentioned above, some parts retailers and manufacturers simply wont take payment from an international source.

Some of the dealers on the auction sites are willing to accommodate assuming you can find your part. You could put out a request on a US colt forum and see what happens also.

It would seem to me that a company with a US export license like IRG could add this sort of "personal shopper" service to their existing export services. Obviously for an additional fee but it would be great if you could just tell them "I need a such n such". They would buy it from Midway, Numrich or whoever in the US and then ship it into Canada.

They never asked if I was a gunsmith or not. I can’t see why that would change anything...

I’ve ordered lots of parts from them. I do my own trigger jobs and barrel crowns. I don’t have a lathe so if that’s what would differentiate me from a genuine gunsmith so be it.

Still wouldn’t make a lick of difference to them as far as I’m concerned.
