I just got off the phone with Western Gun Parts. I was trying to buy some replacement parts for a Savage/ Stevens 311A , double barrel , that happens to be in 410 bore. I thought the parts I need would be easy to locate. They are advertised on the internt and pop right up with a quick search. I have seen them offered as both original , and recently manufactured replacement parts.
I need a trigger guard , a front trigger guard screw , and a butt plate. Sounds easy huh? Nothing major.
After the girl put me on hold, and did a very quick check , she came back on the phone and said sorry , but we no longer carry parts for those models. That kinda took me by surprise! Wow ! I just said , OK then , thanks for your time and have a good day! I really thought It would go a bit better than that. Common gun , common parts I thought.
Does this surprise anybody else ? We don't carry parts for them anymore? Wow. LOL
I have ordered from the USA before ( Numrich) but thought this time I would order from a Canadian company .
I have seen WGP mentioned and recommended many times . Sorry for the rant . I may be in shock here ! LOL

I'd start with Numrich. Shopping Canadian is great, but it's also great to not have to spend an entire afternoon calling around for parts.

Not surprised as I am finding that no one wants to carry any inventory lately. Not just gun parts. I order parts for work and many parts are on back order. If we want to pay extra for shipping I can get the parts shipped direct from over seas if they have it made. Have you tried putting up a want to buy add ? Someone must have parts. Even new gun parts aren’t the easiest to get.

I dealt with WGP most of my career. They had a huge inventory. Several years ago Erv showed me around his warehouse... unbelievable amount of parts... and he knew what and where it all was...

The "lady's" at the front desk are not so helpful usually rude and short tempered. Talk to 3 people get quoted three prices.

I do not know about multiple price quotes - my experience maybe 15 years ago - two phone calls, uber rude and abrupt female on the phone - and I was done with them - I never did try to call them a third time - yet my brother was going to their store in Edmonton and thought it is a great place.

Best way with WGP's is to send them an email with the parts you need with the proper manufactures part numbers.
No rudeness this way.

WTB in the EE may prove to me helpful.

Been there a couple times, found that was not the case, though I had heard same, so, I guess mileage varies.

Last time I was in, I had been blown off by the arse clown behind the counter at Wholesale Sports (so that dates it a bit!), when I tried to buy two sets of scope rings, and the idiot behind the counter had two, but claimed he would only sell me one, "Because what happens if a customer comes in looking for one?"
In short, I wasn't that sad to see them tank! :)

WGP had what I was looking for, the prices were OK, and the service prompt.

If it was WSP in Edmonton I would put money on a fat guy with a beard. We used to have whole discussions about him .

Younger guy. Dark haired.

The one that I recall though, was the fat chick that worked in Archery. The sound of her voice could make me put down whatever I HAD actually found in stock, and just bail the fruck out of the store! <shudder>

The Sisters Grim

I no longer deal with WGP because of the nasy Harpies.

IMHO, they inherited a business they could care less about and have no other means to make a living. They're going to run that business into the ground out of sheer hate and desperation.

Don't you just love it when you get someone crabby and/or cross-grained. I went into a Ford dealership one time to get a jug of antifreeze for my truck. Holy! You'd have thought I wanted the a$$hole to cut off one of his fingers. I dealt with people over the phone and over the counter for twenty years at my shop, and was always careful to be polite.

Just a quick update. The parts arrived today from Numrich. No problems . The package was in customs for only one day ! They did open it and look inside , but that is understandable I think. This seems like the way to go , definetly less hassle and no rudeness , however it is pricey .
The exchange rates are unpleasant , but less painful than talking to a fool on the phone. LOL
