paterning deer

Ya most folks don't realize how much work baiting is, Im out every night almost replenishing my bait. Ill put enough out for 1 or 2 nights max until now i stock the pile just to keep them in the area. Our hunting is all done here as of tomorrow night. Cant says as i find it work though love it in fact. Ill be making a couple changes next year how and where I bait. 1. First we would like to move closer to where there bedding down 2. I want a feeder so that the bait is thrown out in the morning and not the afternoon. 3. I would like to have 2 blind or stand locations setup due to wind direction

Awesome that you have learned about size condition and patterns of your herd through baiting.... That is why you do it... Some say baiting is wrong... But then hunting over an apple tree they frequent is wrong... You are starting to learn how it works... Good on you... Why is your hunt done so early?

How about something totally radical like not hunting the bait pile but rather setting yourself up to overlook one or two of the major trails coming out of the bedding areas that go towards your bait piles?

We use a feeder with a timer and feed the deer with corn or a fixed of corn and molasses. They are $12 a 25 kg bag.

Since we want the deer to come around at 9:00am and 4:30pm, the feeder comes on an hour earlier. Starting mid October you feed to make sure they get used to the feeding location. As someone mentioned earlier, you drop the quantity later in the season so that they come out on time - first come first serve while quantity last principle...

I enjoy hunting late in the season (at the end of the rut) when there is snow on the ground. BTW I shot my deer on December 10 with my Excalibur just after 4:00pm.

There are bucks that just won't come to bait.
I have several trail cam pics of a beauty taken approx 3-400 yds from my bait but never did see him on the bait camera
