63 / 200 straights is a very small number of perfect scores considering that there are 4500 plus shooters and 10 days of competition.
It’s very easy to sit back and say make it more difficult.
With ata trap shooting you don’t compete with the guy next to you the person that can beat you is you .
I shot trap for 22 years ish never shot a 200 straight I shot a 199 and a few 100 straights . To anyone that thinks it’s not difficult just walk up to the line and show us what you got

Personally I think 63 - 200 straights is pretty high. At the 100th Grand(my second time attending) attendance records were set with over 5000 entries in the 200 Singles Championship and Preliminary Handicap Championships both. It was the first time in the history of the Grand at that time there over 5000 entries in any event. The singles program got reduced to 150 targets in order to be able to put all shooters through on the same day. I shot 148/150 that day and I recall looking at the score board and seeing 10 perfect scores listed for Champion shoot-offs. The Preliminary Handicap the following day was won with a lone score of 98/100, there were 4-97's one of which was shot by Kay Ohye and 8 of us with 96's. Leo Harrison III and I had to shoot along with 6 others for 5th place and I ended up 10th after shoot-offs. I have been told that they no longer widen the target angles for shoot-offs at the Grand and that is why shoot-offs can go hundreds of rounds to determine winners. Personally I prefer the way it was done years ago with the wider target angles even though I'm nowhere near a consistent winner now nor was I even back then.
As for the show us what you got comment, I could not agree more.

Maybe I ruffled some feathers when I said that I thought the scoring wasn't difficult enough but I did it with a disclaimer that I'm not good enough to shoot those kind of scores. I never said that I didn't think it was difficult but Spank, your comment about shoot off's going hundred of rounds to determine a winner is exactly why I said what I did!

As A long time, trap shooter that is an amazing display of shotgun prowess. My hat goes off to him for such an accomplishment and he did this on his own I presume as there are Military types in the US that have everything paid for as well as trap and skeet scholarships in some US universities .Think how grand (no pun) that would be cheers RD

No feathers ruffled here. All goof FF. :d

I started shooting at a club this year and shoot about 5 rounds every Saturday. I have shot three 50 straights and several 96/100 scores. Those days I am just smashing targets but the ones I miss are from the mental stress I get on the line, my hands start to shake as I get too excited about that potential 100. I miss the first one on round three when gong for 75 every time then hit the rest because the pressure is off. If we didn't keep scores then I think I would be shooting much better.

Welcome to trap shooting.

Sounds familiar, the hardest part of trap shooting is the mental aspect. Anyone who's shot even just a few rounds of trap knows how to break the targets but focus and being in the moment each time you call pull are a bigger challenge for most. You've done well to shoot those scores in your first year!

Exactly right. Trap is a game of mental focus. Yes you need other elements in place too like gun fit, stance, mount, basic fundamentsl etc but once you've got all that in place then you need to be able to remain focused 100% from shot to shot. Easier said than done especially as you age. It's the focus that does me in most days. My mind starts to wander then it's nearly impossible to get back on track. The days I've shot my best scores it's as if I've been in a trance. It's as if I see and hear nothing going on around me or have a single thought in my head. Everything is just automatic like a robot repeating each step without any deviance from the program. And on those days my visual accuity is sharp as a razor. I can see the target spinning in flight throughout it's entire flight path and the target appears larger and much slower. I know I'm not alone in this as I have a friend now retired from shooting who was a good shooter and on those days for him he'd say to me as we drove home together from a shoot in his heavy german accent "the targets looked like pumpkins today and were just hanging up there at perfect height, I couldn't miss!"

I couldn't describe that better Spank!

I shot a 24, 25, 25, 24 on Saturday. Was happy with myself. I missed on my fifth station on the fourth round ending my chance for a 75 pin. Oh well, very happy I got that far, ended up shooting about 80 straight in those 4 rounds. My hands were shaking putting shells into my gun by my last station. This is so addicting.
