Paul Switzer Auction Report

God alone knows.

Police were at his house for some reason and "confiscated" it, just refused to give it back until it had been completely destroyed.

He could have sued and got a Court Order releasing his property, but he didn't know anything about courtrooms except that they were bad places to go. As far as he knew, the cops WERE the Law. Some of them (thank God a minority) certainly seem to ACT like they are IN CONTROL. It's an old problem with people in Authority; it seems to go to some of their heads. I had a Vancouver cop tell me, 45 years ago, "Listen, Punk: I make the law around here!" I was a member of a club and had gone to the police station to get a Form 42 (the old range permit) so I could go to the range. It took 6 months to get, eventually.

If you can keep people ignorant of what the law really IS, and throw your weight around enough, you can get away with just about anything, just by buffaloing people into submission.

Showing "deference to Authority" is said to be one of the defining characteristics of Canadians. Get the wrong people in the offices of Authority, and it can be a very short step from "deference TO Authority" to "fear OF Authority". The one implies a quasi-egalistic state of affairs, the other is definitely a master-servant relationship.

Sorry, but I don't want to be anyone's servant, not when I have to pay their exorbitant salary, too!

Sometimes, I wish Canadians were a lot more LIKE Americans. At least Americans stand up for their rights, even if they are wrong some of the time.

End of rant.

Amen to this Smellie! If I ever come to rural Manitoba I'd love to chat over coffee. On my dime, of course!

As I was not at this auction I have no idea how many of the 12(2) guns were sold to 12(2) licensed collectors.

How many were sold as dewats ...and how many will be dewatted for sale by a buyer like Collectors Source?

What was the demand was for 12(2) or 12(3) guns....and what was the demand for the dewats?

I guess I have an interest in an auction like this for personal reasons because I have two dewats and
four 12(3)s.

On Collector Sources' web site they are offering a dewat MP44 for $4,995.

Collector's Guild offers Canadian dewats for sale when they have them. (Pretty healthy prices.)

I am most curious to follow where this part of the Canadian market is going.

An MP44 and MP40 both are Erma assembled guns. Both are 12(3)s.

This is why this auction interests me.

That 12(3) MP44 is fackin' incredible Sir.

Jesus I hate our laws :(

Thanks Travis Bickle for your nice comment regarding the MP44.

I am curious how this MG42 would have fared at this auction.
This gun is a dewat with a moving action and matching S/Ns as shown.

This auction is one I wished had been closer to home! The amount of accessories for the military weapons was exceptional. Some treasures there. Was there a "bidding war" on the Thompson? I'm shell shocked at what it went for .....
