Pave's new SKS... literally NEW

Some people like things stock and like things modded. This looks good to me. But I also like stock sks.

Then again I have both, 1 modded and 1 stock.

Keep it up!

That rear cover is too wobbly for a scope mount. The easy fix is to run a 1/4" tap through both receiver rails and the cover base. Super solid and a 1/4 x 20 bolt costs about 25 cents.

Got my latest parts shipment in and did a bit of modding this afternoon.

I installed a Tapco rubber butt pad, a BC Scout mount, a Truly Tactical extended mag release and a new micro red/green dot. Everything went together as smooth as it always does. No issues or hang ups at all. Very nice parts, all of them.

Then, I decided to do some bubba work and did the closed bolt mod. It wasnt hard at all but did take some time to get the shaved areas smooth. I also cut off my barrel to 18.5 inches. This is SERIOUS bubba stuff... hehe. But I just acquired a Ruger Mini-30 so if I want a super accurate gun, ill use that. My SKS is just for fun shooting so I wanted it to look better. I think I did a decent job of it. Re-crowned it myself as best I could. Hopefully ill get out and do some shooting this weekend to see if its at all accurate.

I removed the front sight/bayonet mount and cut the bayonet part off, then turned what was left around and re-installed it on the barrel and re-pinned it so it looks a bit more finished rather than just having the barrel end with nothing. I think it looks pretty good.

I just picked up another case of ammo from tradeex... free shipping just got to me. I figure, I'm not a "preper" but why not have a full case sitting around. Worst case scenario, I use it at some point. Better it be in my basement at $269 a case than in a warehouse waiting to go up in price.

Ive also got a few more goodies I want to add to this gun. I think I'm going to remove the fore grip, I've got a bi-pod to go on instead and I think ill add one of those angled fore grips at the back of the lower rail. Finally, I'm liking the look of the vented gas tube cover you can get for it in place of the Tapco upper part. Not %100 sure on that yet but thats where I'm leaning.

Finally, I got a pin on break that SHOULD fit on my shortened barrel... may require some more modding but it should finish off the look of the end of the barrel.

I just picked up a few different cheek rest options from a store called Israel Defense on e-bay. They apparently will fit right on the tapco stock. They were pretty cheap and shipping was only $4 each so I got a couple options. figure ill find a use for them somewhere down the road. Ill post pics once I get them. Hopefully no issues with shipping. The store said they ship to canada so we'll see.

Nice work. Did you have to drill another slot for the pin or was the existing one in the right place? For the front sight I mean. I almost want to try a tapco'd SKS now...

Had to drill another slot but I used the hole in the front sight as a guide and just went lightly with the bit to the other side. Pin fit really tight but I did get it in there. I think with the break I've got coming it really should finish off the front of the gun nicely.

I have been looking at 1X14 reverse threading kits though which would allow me to use an AK threaded break. Im just not sure I want to go that far, but its definitely the next thing on the list.

That is a Micro Red/green dot I got from Hical... They usually don't list the brand and I can't remember what it is for the life of me right now. But it was about $99 or so and its really nice. Im debating weather or not I want a rear mount on this gun over the receiver cover. Not a choate... I know that. Something removable but side mounted. Thats down the road. The scout mount is fine for now.

check out a weaver convertamount. They are meant for shotguns, but I have seen people use them on the SKS. It is a rail that you drill and tap on to the receiver, then can remove the mount with rail as you want

Also consider a VZ 58 side rail and removable mount. same idea as the weaver

btw this is how mine turned out with the choate (same as my avatar)

the to do list:
-a shorter barrel would definitely be nice!
-QD bayonet mod
-finish sanding stock
-shorter/tactical scope so I can load with stripper clips

CNC Warrior has threading dies and die starters in M14X1 RH and LH. You could go RH and use VZ58 muzzles. Probably easier to source in Canada with ITAR cutting us off.
