Picked this ol' girl up for $150 from a pawn shop on the weekend, a 1942 Savage. Other than being sporterized she in great condition. 2 groove bore is bright and shiney, had a little surface rust from sitting but it cleaned right off. Might make it a candidate for a full wood restore. Pretty good shape for 83 years old 20250714_135748.jpg20250714_135820.jpg

Restoring is cool but the prices anymore are over the fence.
There are alternatives.
I fit a rearhand guard and dremmeled out a channel for a band / sling swivel and call it the L42 Wannabe.

Wait... pawn shops are still a thing? Pawn shops here stopped selling guns about 20 years ago and now pawn shops down seem to exist anymore. :p

The base rifle might be worth only $200 because it needs $500 worth of replacement wood and stock hardware to get a second look on the Exchange.
