paying for access to land

For deer, canada and turkey, same 5 guys use my land in Ontario for the last 20 years, never asked for a penny but on the other hand, i did not pay for snow removal, road fixing, landscaping and roofing job on the farm for those same 20 years.

It has became a gentelman agrement with no contract except the paper i write them so they have no problem with trespassing.

That seems like a great approach...money is not always the answer
 
I used to joke that I could have bought everyone in my family a Ferrari for what my hunting land cost. Then I added it up; and it turned out to be true. Then it wasn’t funny anymore.:( Paying for access is a bargain compared to buying it, and then paying taxes on it forever. Access has value, which is proven by the fact that people want it. Some rent it, some buy it, some trade for it, some beg for it and some try to steal it.

They make cars every day, they aren't making any more land.

When you are younger and you start to buy land, 40 acres there, 130 acres here, and so on. Then come a time when you end up with all this land.

It is paid for and it belong to you, i would never sell it back even for double the price.

Polite and courageous persons is my kind of person, i would never hope to take their money but the real ones know what to do to get favors.

Land is precious that why i chose carefully the ones i will trust on my land.

I agree with you, and support a landowners right to choose to go the "pay for play" route...

For me it is purely a dollars and cents thing vs availability... if I had no other option, I would pay rather than sit on the couch... but there are plenty of public access and free private access options, so I just make the best of those. In general, here... this is only a turkeys & deer scenario... there is plenty of public access land for bears and moose. However the "free" private deals may not include cash money, but they do involve time, whether that is sitting down and chatting over tea for an hour, or splitting and hauling firewood or clearing trails, or shotgunning feral pigeons or coyotes or coons, or a variety of many other possibilities. I have zero tolerance for entitled individuals who feel that the world owes them something, or that they should benefit from the "sweat and blisters" of another.

Follow up to the original post, I just spoke to my landowner friend and they have stopped his treatments and given him a month on this earth... we are going to rush the roof job, so that he can see it finished for his family before he goes... 😪 ... hopefully that will add to his peace and comfort.

Well sure it is. Americanization of Canadian hunting. In fact here in Manitoba plenty of land is leased by American hunters for the sole purpose of exclusive hunting for the yank group alone. Outfitters are messing everything up for the common hunter and his kid as well. Should be residents first for tags and accessibility as it is in the USA. Perfect world but I cant blame a farmer for trying to make a couple bucks on the side...especially when prices are low or theyre having a tough year.

Everything costs money.

If you want to hunt it should be like this................

1)Hunt public/crown land.

2)Go on a guided hunt.

3)Hunt your own property.

4)If you want to hunt private land but have no access , buy some.

I am pretty tired of entitled people thinking they should have access everywhere for no other reason than being entitled.I am especially shocked at the SWF and their stance on this, I will never support them again due to their push to that was to not have the current trespass law changed.

If you own something and someone else wants it they have to either buy or rent , like a trencher or jack hammer or gen-set, if you need one, you buy or rent, not sure why it have to be different for land and land owners, it's their property, they should be able to do as they wish.People pay to park, pay to use a hotel, pay to go water sliding, pay to go to the parks, why should land/property be any different?

It's a pay to play world, get "F" used to it.

What about option 5; Landowners grant permission for many of the reasons stated in this thread

Hunters should not be entitled to access....but landowners should be entitled to allow hunters should they wish. As mentioned, sometimes it goes way beyond actual cash

If they want to grant access that's fine, to close family or friends but in the end it if you are a nobody asking for access, take a walk.

How many times have people said , yes, sure, go ahead only to find their land and property destroyed or said "individual" is bringing their buddies to hunt this awesome spot and it is suddenly over run.

Paying is a good way to keep people responsible and the dead beats out, to a point but every little bit helps.
