PCC grain recommended 115/124/147

I ran some tests for my 9mm PCC a while back, I tried

1) 124gr RN (my reloads making ~132 PF ) - accuracy was OK

2) 124gr HP (my reloads making ~132 PF ) - accuracy was good

3) 135gr RN (my reloads making ~132 PF ) - these had the worst accuracy

4) 147gr RNFP (my reloads making ~132 PF ) - accuracy was very good

5) 147gr HP (my reloads making ~132 PF ) - accuracy was very good

6) 147gr RNFP (factory ammo making ~170+ PF ) - accuracy was excellent - hands down the winner in all 3 guns that I tried it in

For feel / recoil:

124gr (my reloads making ~132 PF ) - gun felt fast / snappy

135gr RN (my reloads making ~132 PF ) - right between 124 & 147 for snappy and recoil

147gr RNFP (my reloads making ~132 PF ) - softest shooting / recoil was a soft push

147gr RNFP (factory ammo making ~170+ PF ) - this had the most recoil was was still very manageable
I think I'm going to settle for a 1000 rounds of these:

In my life ammo has never gone down in price...

Not true - cheaper today than it was like 3 years ago. But that is certainly the exception, not the rule. Buy it cheap, stack it deep are wise words when it comes to ammo.

I have been slowly building up my stockpile of 9mm. Cabelas tends to have boxes on sale for $20 or less pretty regularly, but what exactly they have on sale changes. I'm currently sitting on a variety of 115, 124, and 147gr stuff from a few different manufacturers - blazer, Federal, Remington, PMC, I think theres some winchester in there too... It WOULD be cheaper to buy 1000 rounds at a time, but I like the variety this offers me and its much easier for me to drop $25-50 every few weeks than it is to buy a case, by the time I have ~$400 to spend something else always seems to take priority over ammo...

Now if only my Ruger PCC would become legal again... ####ers...

Yeah I feel you, it saves money to buy bulk but I also don't always have the $400 on hands... Little by little building a stockpile is a good idea. I'm thinking of buying 1500 rounds for a start. Then I'll shop for the deals and slowly either keep it up or building it. Cheers

I don't know about in a PCC but I've always found 147gr to be the most accurate in my 9mm handguns.

Longer bearing surface on a 147gr *should* in theory mean more stability / accuracy.

My testing with various bullet types suggested this was the case. The 147gr factory was by far the most accurate. Factory ammo is generally hotter than my reloads which I also found resulted in better accuracy.

Does anyone have experience with PMC Bronze on a PCC?

From what I read, CCI blazer and Fiocchi seem the go-to. PMC are a tad cheaper and have good reviews online but I never used them so..

I've used at least a hundred thousand PMC Bronze ammunition and it's probably my #1 favorite for bulk ammo.

This is really gun specific. I don't get the whole 115gr "snappy" thing - I just use what is available that is in my cabinet, but in shooting all three indicated (plus other ones like the Syntech 138gr), different guns like different ammo. For instance, my FX9 (now banned) was most accurate with 147gr. Why, I have no idea, since others have said the same with 124. My FPC (also banned) likes the 124gr. My Ruger PC Carbine (now banned, but I sold it a couple of years ago) had reliable feeding with 147gr Syntechs but was more accurate with 124gr Syntechs. It is really hard to say what may work for you, since what may work for one may not work for another - even with the same make/model of firearm.

My defensive loads are often in 147gr (Gold Dots, HST, etc.) and if my gun likes it, I feed it.

In general, I like PMC Bronze for pretty much any caliber. I have always found it reliable and for some calibers, the brass casings are good for reloading. To me, it's a good mix of value and quality. Fiocchi is very good too, but I don't find a lot lot in the higher weights. I use mostly Federal Syntechs in 147gr out of my PCCs (when they were legal to use - hopefully they will be again)

Thank you for your point of view into the discussion I started, all comments are valued and appreciated. Taking this into account, I ordered my first 1000 rounds in 124 since it seems to be a middle ground. But I also bought a 100 rounds of each 115 and 147 made by the same brand so I can compare them and draw conclusions by myself. It's a new PCC in the market and to me so we'll see! Cheers

Thank you, I wasn't sure as usually cheaper is false economy but in this case you and many others have confirmed that it is not the case. So I'll give them a shot!

I sincerely hope your PCC will be available for you to use again.
