PCP 4500psi refill setup

Im sure a majority of scba tanks are made overseas, but how confident are you in this tank? or will you be taking it to get certified once it lands?

It's already CE 1282 approved... I'm fairly confident, there's quite a few guys that have been running these tanks - in one size or another - on the GTA forum. And I quote, "for years".
Only thing I'm not confident in, is the amount of time it's gonna take to get here and if FedEx is gonna treat my parcel like HDS deliveryman Ace Ventura...

I don't think CE certification will allow any dive shop to fill your tank. They legally need the tank to be DOT certified before they will touch it. Even then these tanks need to be inspected every 5 years and have a 15 year life from their production date marked on the tank. The CE tank is still good if you have your own compressor to fill it. Another work around might be to rent a tank of nitrogen from somebody like Praxair and fill your small tank from that.

my local shop who does breathable air fills for, fire, rescue, and oilfield h2s applications and gas plants says the dot he does not care

there is another symbol he looks for and that is good enough

he says just don’t get stopped by cops or hiway for the department of transport as there are transportation requirements that symbol is used for

Just because he will fill a non-DOT tank doesn't make it legal. A lot of businesses won't touch a non-DOT tank. I have a buddy in the dive business and he won't touch a tank without the DOT tag. Its not worth it to him if something should happen.

I have no idea what the differences are between DOT and CE as Acecare manufactures both tanks. Maybe its a quality tolerance spec??

thought the dot was only for transport certification

most dive shops want the dot certification yes

the 5 year tested certificate is also needed

my MAIN PROBLEM is the faking of certificates or stickers

BET IT HAPPENS A LOT ESPECIALLY WITH ACECARE STUFF

if you buy from a respected folks like AGS they make sure who they buy from have it in the specs for the product

still the manufacture can just fiddle with the end products

decals are easy to produce

take care folks this is one area I am nervous about at the best of times

Checkout the AC168 Acecare 6.8L 4500Psi Carbon Fiber Gas Cylinder and Filling Station from airgunarcheryfun.
Wes is out of Caronport Saskatchewan and is really good to deal with. He has them on his site for $377.

Again, they are CE certified. This is great if you have your own compressor but you can't be guaranteed you can find a commercial business to fill it for you. You get what you pay for. Due diligence is required before you put your money on the table.

What goes on in Onterrible, does not apply to Alberta.
Just like what the refill stations in Edmonton do, isn't always the same as the refill stations in Calgary.
When I get my non-DOT certified tank filled, are you gonna come back and eat crow on this thread ?
If I can't get it filled, I'll definitely come back and let everyone know.
But someone will fill it to 4300 - 4500 PSI, either air or nitrogen, I guarantee it...

My buddy with the dive business IS in Alberta. If you actually read what I posted I made it clear that filling a non DOT tank by commercial businesses was not allowed. I did not say you couldn't possibly find somebody that would ignore the laws. That's also why I posted the possibility of getting a tank of nitrogen and filling your bottle yourself.

For the cost of a CF tank + the issues having it filled
- Wouldn't it make more sens to just buy your own compressor?

yes I might be doing just that

1600 beans delivered to my door a new hill compressor hope they work

will start a new thread on compressors next week

From what I gather on AirgunNation. Seems like just about everybody is having good luck with the various Chinese compressors, as long as you don't overheat them. And if/when/should they break, they are easy enough to work on.

Personally, I'd be more tempted to get 3x Chinese at $500 each than one $1600 Hill

I used a 4500# bottle of nitrogen from the local hardware store for $120 . it's about 4 ft tall. bought a valve assembly, then a #6000 needle valve, then a charging guage and hose assembly. No compressors to buy or maintain, no manual pump, etc. just hook up and fill. I don't know yet how many fills I will get from the big tank but when it is depleted I just return for another one at $120.

Please show us the actual law so that I can read it here

a few dive shops in Alberta are real snotty when it comes to filling tanks, they think we are beneath them so that is why some of them want to sell you a 1600 tank and not refill the ce approved ones

yiu did not answer the dot parts either

This is surely the most economical way to fill a PCP reservoir. It has only one big drawback.

If you want actual laws then research it. Try Transport Canada as DOT/TC designations are commonly interchanged within Canada and the US i believe. You can also talk to the dive shops or welding gas suppliers as they likely work under the same rules with respect to pressure vessels.

The commercial dive shops are more concerned with protecting their business than breaking laws so they can make $10 filling your tank. Being snotty has nothing to do with it

If you can find a commercial place that will fill your CE tank then post it here so others can benefit.

The other thing I did, bought on government auction four firemans tanks, re-certify them (blabla it is only a watertest) and in a price got a fill as well. I can go legally to a diveshop now to fill but I have my own YongHeng for a sake of convenience.

Were the tanks past their 15 year life? Where did you take them for re-cert? Any idea how old they can be and still get re-cert?
