I am in the market for a pcp and was looking at the FX Royal 500. The reviews that I have seen are favorable and I was just wondering if anybody here has any experience with this rifle that they wish to share. Any other opinions or suggestions on other pcp's are welcome as well as are thoughts on optics for this type of air rifle.

This is my last day at work until the new year and as such I will not longer have access to the internets but will keep tabs on this thread on my phone.

All the best and thnkx in advance

No experience with the FX line myself, but they are supposed to be decent quality.

Benjamin Marauder is half the price, shrouded and accurate for half the price.

Evanix makes some powerful rifles, made in Korea, good reviews.

Sightron makes AO scopes for a decent price with unbeatable warranty.

Recommendations are best made when the purpose of a rifle is more clearly known. The HW100 PCP made by Weihrauch is an excellent rifle, as is the Air Arms S510. The German gun is regulated; the English is not. Both are very well built and respected in the airgun community. The FX rifles enjoy a very good reputation as well. The Mrod is much less expensive and can be made better than it is out of the box with the many mods that are available (and needed). Other rifles worth considering that are available in Canada include those made by Rapid Air Weapons (RAW); they are costly but top of the line. (For RAW rifles see Specialty Shooting Sports.) For a scope, consider one with half mil-dots. It doesn't need to be airgun rated for a PCP.

Daystate has some fantastic pcp rifles, I have their electronic Mk4 IS, its phenomenally accurate. This model is computer controlled but they have others that are mechanical. Also look at the BSA line of pcp airguns, reasonably priced and also very accurate. Daystates are available direct from Airguns of Arizona [they're the North American distributor and warranty centre] or from Airgun Source in Canada.
Checkout the factory web site for model details for each http://www.daystate.com/index.htm and http://bsaguns.co.uk

Scope wise the Hawke line has a very bright sight picture with excellent etched reticles and are reasonably priced. As mentioned before, do get a mill-dot or preferably a half mill dot reticle to accommodate the looping nature of pellet trajectory. I'm just adding a scope by another company, Optisan that also has a great reputation in airgun circles. I've bought my scopes from Specialty Shooting Sports in BC, they're great to deal with and used to be Daystate resellers.

Thnkx for the input guys. Just noticed that I spelt rifle in the thread title and cannot figure out a way to edit it.

I still have a bit of time left before I have enough money saved to buy a rifle and optics, so I will continue to research my options.

I was looking at the Hawke Sidewinder TAC 30 6.5-20x42 will mil dot, but the turret adjustment is MOA and I would prefer to have both the reticule and adjustments the same. This will be a significant upgrade from my Benji Trail NP so I am really unsure as to what will be required in the optics department.

My intended use for this rifle will be pest control and target shooting.

cheers,
corey
